Album Notes
NEW BIRTH n [New Life, Second Wind, Re-genesis, Renewal, Renaissance, Resurrection, Redemption]

The Timeless Classics: "Dream Merchant," "It's Been A Long Time," "I Can Understand It," "It's Impossible," "Wildflower". The list goes on.

The Story: The ever soulful and timeless New Birth has continually maintained a strong presence in today's musical market as evidenced by the repeated use of their music. Either as re-makes or as samples, their music and musical style has experienced a resurgence. This new album is classic New Birth for today's market. You can dance to this music, drive to this music and make love to this music because this is real music and we all know that real music makes us feel good.

Today's New Birth consists of the nucleus of the New Birth sound. Brother's Leslie and Melvin Wilson (lead singer and 2nd lead singer/writer/producer respectively) have reformed the group and are happily back to doing what they do best... making and performing the music we all love to hear.

Having been in the music business for so many years, Melvin and Leslie have seen their share of coming and going. The thing that makes New Birth extraordinary is the classic, timeless beauty of the songs they perform and the memories they evoke in people. Music has always been New Birth's first love, and that's why they put a special effort into everything they do. It's all about the audience.

It is almost impossible to count the times that fans have approached Melvin and Leslie to let them know what their music has meant to them, how it has become a marker in their lives, a first kiss, a first love, the birth of a child and so much more. To them, this is the real reason they continue to bring New Birth to the people... it makes them feel good to make us feel good. "Although it's been an up and down road, I wouldn't have missed a minute of it," Melvin reflects. "New Birth will never stop."

New Birth never has, and never will let you down, this CD is Hot!!!
The setting is warm, the flow is smooth. Leslie and Melvin's vocals are as strong, soothing, and powerful as ever. Barney Thomas has done an excellent job of caputring and re-creating the New Birth sound, it's full of love and life. If you love New Birth, you will love this CD!!!

Super Classy Soul for 2004
Leslie and Melvin return to spearhead the rejuvenated New Birth for 2004. What the gents serve up here is a delicacy of real soul with a traditional basis and a modern twist. No ersatz R&B grooves here. Chunky, funky and romantic flavours are the order of the day. Fun Is In The Chase, Workin' On You, Ten Toes Up, Hey Girl and To The Light are just what the doctor ordered. This is an essential purchase. CD Baby come up trumps yet again!

'In The Basement' magazine (David Cole)

New Birth are back in the guise of long-term stalwarts, Leslie and Melvin Wilson, supplemented by Sean ‘Barney’ Thomas, who also co-produced with the brothers and was responsible for the instrumentation. Given the reliance on just a one-man-programmed background, the guys were very brave to revisit their #1 r&b hit version of Dream Merchant but they actually make a satisfactory enough job. (The upbeat, funky Comin’ From All Ends also blasts back at the past not perhaps quite so well.) There are some nice ballads on here, with or without an added beat, most notably Workin’ On You, to which can be added Fun Is In The Chase, You Know You Want Me and To The Light. There is also Ten Toes Up and if I add the words from the song: ...and ten toes down, the rhythm is so good, you’ll know what that’s all about! Hey Girl is a pleasant toe-tapper but the contemporary handclapper, Ballin’ and the percussion-backed, mid-paced Mo’ Deep, featuring Sean Thomas, are rather sub-par. The whole closes with some happy-clappy gospel in the shape of Mighty Rock. What knocks this cd completely for six, however, and makes one reassess just how good the set really is, is the (unwise?) inclusion of In My Lifetime, a 1985 recording from the days when New Birth was a ten-person line-up. A fulsome slowie in classic New Birth fashion, it left me wanting more like that and ultimately less satisfied with the rest than I might otherwise have been.

I was once again blown away again by these wonderful songs, performances, incredible tight harmonies and very well, crisp and tightly recorded and perfectly edited songs fro this Album, "Liftime." And even with still that Clasic R & B style I also hear a stong, original up to date, new and unique sound all it''s own that is to me one of the biggest reasons why this ALbum has done as well as it has and still continues to be going strong with all Listners young, middle-aged, old... EVERYBODY... Just like Earth, Wind and Fire, they as Leslie and Melvin Wilson and The New Birth Band have a flawless, impecable, respected, and totallly adored and admired sound that is in it's own and on it's own, a style like no other...and Their own... Same with Melvin and Leslie and The New Birth Band... Keep it up... And keep writing new songs and never please never stop singing the many hits that people all over the world have and never and will never forget including me.... Especially me! Thank You.. It was an honor meeting you Melvin yesterday and enjoyed singing a bit with you... Please stay in touch and don't forget to check out my latest Album, "Lush Life" and music Video...Clcik on to my Website: www.Mylasjazzymusic.com

Lovely album and highly recommended.
The New Birth cd arrived on my doormat last week. The two main front men here are Leslie and Melvin Wilson, aided and abetted by nearly 12 other musicians, who have really brought this veteran band right into the new millennium. The opener 'Fun Is In The Chase' is a simple lovely piece of Soul Music. Nice harmonies and very 2004. That is quickly followed on by a great ballad entitled 'Workin' On You'. 'Dream Merchant' is a slice of Classic Soul and 'You Know You Want Me' hits the spot as well. Pretty solid set here. Peter Young played the excellent 'Hey Girl' on his Sunday Soul Cellar show last week after I sent him a copy. A better song you would be hard to find all this year. Lovely album and highly recommended.

This is my new "makes me feel good" CD.
Hey, everyone. I just wanted to share this with you. Last Friday, Oct. 22 I went on the New Birth site and ordered the new CD "Lifetime." They shipped the CD on Monday, Oct. 25 and I received the CD on Tuesday, Oct. 26. I am so happy with how that worked out, I can't say enough good things about it.

Now for the best part. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the new CD. You know how you have a special CD that is just for you and the road? Well, this is my special one for the road. It is a FEEL GOOD CD. I love cranking it up real loud and cruising. The music is romantic, the harmony is off the chain and what can I say about the vocals? Both of the brothers are so very blessed and talented. Leslie - you truly have one of the class voices of our century. This is no bull. This is for real. You
are in the league with David Ruffin and many more of our classic singers of our time.

Thank you for giving us the music, Leslie and Melvin. We can only give back by buying the CD for a measley little $13 bucks. Some people don't want to spend the money but to me, it is the best spent $13 I have ever spent. It
costs so much more to produce this - that's the least we can give back. And please everyone, do not burn this CD for friends. Tell them not to be cheap and just buy it. You spend that much at Starbucks in two visits, right?!

Well, I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do. I appreciate great talent and may you continue giving us much more.

With love and sincerity,

Annette Walker

fantastic loved it
This is classic New Birth like back in the day. If you were a fan then you will love this new cd. Vocally they still got it and the band is smoking. The remake of Wild Flower is just as good or better than the first. But my favorite is ten toes up-what a beautiful ballad. You will find yourself playing it over and over again. A must!

beautiful, ray of sunshine
