Album Notes
During the American Civil War both Confederate and Union armies hired musicians to accompany them on long marches . Some great songs and tunes came about from that terrible tragic war. These nineteen are only a small sample We tried to sound authentically 1860's. The Southern string band style originated in Scotland and Ireland and materialized in the American South, and there was a strong Irish and Scottish influence in music of the Northern states as well. The album features multi-instrumentalist Richard Bird Baker, known author of six books, playing all instruments except bass and Celtic harp.
