ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Original Unit is a Barbadian jazz trio consisting of pianist Stefan Walcott, bassist Neil Newton and drummer David Carnegie. Their music combines elements of Caribbean music, straight-ahead jazz, soul, electronica and free improvisation. David, Stefan and Neil started playing together at school (Harrison College) and went on to pursue music at the Barbados Community College and then in the U.K. Their well received debut album, Present Day, draws on their myriad musical experiences performing in the Caribbean, Europe and North America as leaders and as members of various ensembles. Their music, full of drama, spontaneity, compelling narratives and infectious grooves, can and does go off in new and exciting directions at every show, making The Original Unit a thriving collaboration focused on the journey rather than the destination.
