Grammy nominated musicians Peter Kater, Nawang Khechog and Michael Fitzpatrick join together to dedicate a powerful improvisation to honor the missing 11th Panchen Lama Gendun Choekyi Nyima . All proceeds benefit the Panchen Lama-Tashi Lhunpo Project, a 501 (c) 3, established per request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to help build a new Prayer and Assembly Hall for the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in exile.
The Dalai Lama has requested, and is helping to support, a new Prayer Hall that will accommodate 1,500 monks rather than the present 150 at the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in exile. Part of our mission is to raise funds for the Prayer Hall construction. The The Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama are generally regarded as the two highest figures in Tibetan Buddhism; each has the responsibility of recognizing the others reincarnation and of serving as their teacher whenever possible. In this context, the absence of the Panchen Lama whom the Dalai Lama chose, and the Chinese choice of another, poses a challenge for how to continue the Dalai Lama- Panchen Lama traditions alive in freedom.
