Album Notes
Resurrection is the second recording by The SoBo Four jazz quartet, with original compositions by Yasuo Ishikawa and his mentor and adopted father, the late George Keith. Ishikawa composed two of the tunes inspired by people and places in northern Japan and Colorado’s western slope. Keith, who performed during his youth with jazz greats like Charlie Parker, was a beloved jazz theory and saxophone teacher in Longmont, Denver and across the metro area. The two recordings are tributes to this special man and a way to preserve his jazz legacy.

The SoBo Four's saxophonist Yasuo Ishikawa, bassist Derek Woodbury and drummer Brian Mixon came together in a jazz ensemble at the Broadway Music School on Denver’s South Broadway in early 2011. After performing together in several gigs around Denver, the three musicians formed a jazz quartet and began building their own repertoire of standards and originals. They released their first recording, The G.K. Story, in June 2013, with a sold-out CD release party at DazzleJazz in Denver.
Keyboardist Elliot Litz joined The SoBo Four in 2014. Each musician brings a unique jazz background with years of study and performance with strong mentors from the Colorado music community. They perform their unique blend of contemporary instrumental jazz around the state at festivals, fundraisers, private parties, shows, and other events.
