Album Notes
The Soul Shakers, a rhythm and blues band with a bent for funk and soul, who have been working out of Victoria, BC for a more than a decade, have released their second CD. Their first offering, Live at the Yale, was recorded live in Vancouver at that long-time bastion of the blues, The Yale. The new album is a studio recording consisting of six original songs. This self-produced work is called "Love is Love", the title of which comes from the song of the same name which speaks in support of alternate love-styles. Here’s the concluding line from the song:

"… If you’re a man or a woman or in-between
Love your king, love your queen
Love is love – live and let love."

The rest of the songs, each distinctly different, show influences of funk, soul, southern blues-rock, jazz and slow, Ray Charles-style blues.

The lead singer, Joyce Allensen, is nicknamed “Joyce the Voyce”, and for good reason – she packs a vocal punch. She takes the vocal forefront on four of the album's six songs; the two other lead singers, Sean McCool on guitar, and Alexander Ferguson on keys, who are also the songwriters in the band, take the lead on one song each; but, all five members of The Soul Shakers sing and the album features lots of vocal harmonies. The band is driven by the rhythm section: Matt Vause on drums and Henning Kanstrup on bass.
