Album Notes
The Speakerphones will knock your socks off. That is, after your shoes have already shuffled off due to excessive dancing. This five-piece band is a hell of a lot of fun to watch, and almost impossible to pin down, genre wise. A highly eclectic group, they’ve got something for everyone. Wafts of indie rock, 50’s bop, rockabilly, doo wop, cabaret, country, surf, and tropical tones are all somehow seamlessly blended together into a potent brew that makes you want to get out of your seat and groove. This is a party band at its finest. The 4’9 lead singer captivates her audience with a powerhouse voice that belies her diminutive stature. Tattoo laden and with purple accents in her hair, this feisty little vixen exudes a rockabilly charm whilst blasting the room with her soaring vocals. Her voice is enigmatic; powerful, pristine, and faintly imbued with a southern-like drawl. This girl has got some serious charm, and the crowd responds to her immediately. A sense of intimacy and camaraderie radiates from the band’s performance, and they interact with the crowd authentically and spontaneously. This creates a whimsical sense that anything could happen at any given second at their shows. The band itself is incredibly tight and accomplished, displaying some impressive guitar work and keyboard wizardry to fuel the fun-filled chaos. The drums and bass are impeccable, keeping perfect time and providing a rock solid foundation. If you’re lucky a kazoo may even make an appearance at a Speakerphones show, which is something you don’t see every day. All of this creates a vibe that is celebratory, inviting, and full of positive energy. The Speakerphones are one of those groups that you have to see live to understand. So do yourself a favour and catch one of their shows…you and your feet will be happy you did.
