ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Stonethrowers have always felt that the heart of expression is collaboration. The harmony, the tension, and the pull of other minds has driven their music from the start. Music is an outlet for the joy and pain of this world, but especially the feelings that lurk in-between. Their new album, Kissed By The Blue, shows just that: stories of melancholy drenched in shades of blue. The first release since A Miner's Town (2013), it continues the evolution of The Stonethrower's collective voice.

Acoustic songwriting at its heart, The Stonethrowers feature country and bluegrass instruments unrestrained by a desire to hew too closely to tradition. Marc Silver (guitar, vocals), Michael Hlatky (bass, vocals), and Isaac Stanford (pedal steel, dobro) produced five albums of Marc's original music between 2007 and 2013 in Philadelphia, with almost as many mandolin and banjo pickers floating in and out of the band's orbit. Now with the addition of Willy Lebowitz (mandolin, vocals) and Bobby Baxmeyer (banjo, vocals), there are three songwriters contributing their perspectives to the band. The Stonethrowers have entered into their most inspired, collaborative period to date. They are excited to continue growing more and more entwined as they record another album later this year.

“A little bit of folk, a little bit of country and a whole lot of three-part harmonies add up to make this band one you don’t want to miss.” —Philly Metro

"…expect the unexpected. The compositions and song structures are excitingly unpredictable and you can never tell where the next track to going to take you. Each one has its own heartbeat…” —Stephen Krock That Mag
