Album Notes
Our family continues the Family Christmas Album tradition for this our 6th year. It is a Colorado Christmas Celebration Presented by Strange Sounds 2018. This year we are highlighting the journey that brought us to live in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. In 1967 Malcolm and I honeymooned in Colorado. We fell in love with the beautiful outdoors. Two years later in 1969 we came back on a vacation, looking for a job that would carry us through a year of prerequisites for Dental School. Malcolm was hired as an electrical engineer at Martin Marietta the first day. There was time left for us to roam the foothills and the Great Continental Divide. As God would have it UP WITH PEOPLE recorded and performed a tune by David Allen and Phil Colwell called COLORADO (IF I HAD A WAGON) that year. We heard it performed at a Ramada Inn Club by a band of 4. The seed was planted and the journey began. A unique year of sheer joy engulfed us as we made life-long friends at our church. We skied, worked, went to graduate school and found a peace like never before while living in Golden from the Fall of 1969 to the Fall of 1970. Then we went home to Texas. Malcolm completed Dental School and a Pediatric Dental Residency while I taught high school English and had two babies!

The seed had been planted so we moved back to Colorado for good in 1977 and the journey of this album began. Our little boys were 5 and 3. They grew up, fell in love and married lovely girls. They have given us the 5 grand children who record these albums with us. God is good.

Every year brings new adventures and challenges. This year, our instrumental orchestrations were
quite varied in size and style. Therefore, we enlisted incredible musicians to play for us, creating our own tracks. Mr. Rick Willett from Las Vegas, our Music Director and Vocal Coach, created charts for the songs. His experience and talent on drums and keyboard far exceeded our expectations! Mr. Doug Pierce, Worship Pastor at Storyline Fellowship in Arvada, played acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, banjo, and contributed to the Instrumental Arrangements. Miss Abby Martin, violin teacher from Vail, brilliantly played violin and fiddle. Mr. Doug Angle, from Parker, added musical depth to our band on the Bass. Pianist, Joan Twedell, is featured on If I HAD A WAGON, DING DONG MERRILY ON HIGH and AWAY IN A MANGER. Rosemary Vetos made the piano come alive on JINGLE BELLS. This new Strange Sounds Band will continue to add a new element to our recordings. Only with the talent and participation of these musicians could we produce an album that highlights our journey that led us to beautiful Colorado.

Marshall and Sully our 13 and 11 year old grandsons are growing up listening to pop and Christian rap music. Both of them have solos in songs recorded by one of our favorite artists, Toby Mac. His lifestyle and Christian ethics are reflected in the amazing Godly lyrics. FATHER OF THE FATHERLESS rendered by Marshall tells a compelling story of an orphan boy finding a home. Sullivan sings about "the lights, the trees …and the songs of the Savior's birth" when he records Toby Mac's CAN'T WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS. Getting Granddad to jump in on these lively tunes such as BRING ON THE HOLIDAYS was a challenge and lots of fun. All of these tunes lend themselves to the underlying theme of coming home to Colorado.

Clara's GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN is at the heart of our Christian philosophy. Our lives have been spent sharing Christ and our desire is that you would come to know Him personally as you listen to our songs and read our Booklet from the CD.

Lexi, who just turned 8, chose a song which shares the hopes and dreams of a little girl waiting for Christmas to come to town. This album creates memories for the grandchildren so they will not forget sleepovers with grandparents when Polar Express was watched year after year and listening to WHEN CHRISTMAS COMES TO TOWN . Lexi then solicits the help of her two older cousins, Marshall and Sullivan, to record RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER including the Comedic Responses.
Jaxon's contributions to the album always bring joy and laughter! Having a five year old grandson is a wonderful thing. Having him in the recording studio with expensive microphones is another thing: exciting! Jaxon is featured in the JINGLE BELL REMIX that was originally recorded in 2014 by the 4 older grandchildren. Now we have all 5 of these precious kiddos singing this tune. Jaxon's other contribution tells us how the angels sang at the birth of Jesus that night in Bethlehem. He loved singing "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" (Latin for Glory to God in the Highest) with his sister and older cousins.

This year Nana Judy and Granddad Malcolm include another 1940's traditional Christmas duet, LET IT SNOW. In keeping with the Colorado Christmas Celebration we can always count on a good Christmas snow! Snuggling in front of the fire with one or all of our grandbabies over the years has been a huge blessing. The album ends with the robust SLEIGH RIDE sung by all seven of us.

Again, this year we are blessed with our dear friend, Mr. Rick Willett who teaches, directs, and produces our efforts. Time spent with him in voice lessons, practices, and in the studio brought us to a satisfactory finish. Many thanks go to Phan Peterson, our awesome Booklet design artist. Thanks to Abby Kroening of Abigail Oxford Photography for the headshots in our cover photo. And, a special thanks to Heather Myers, design artist, for our CD cover.

Every year our intent is to have fun and create memories as well as learn that hard work pays off. Accomplishing a task with grandkids solidifies relationships. For that opportunity we are grateful.
From the beautiful state of Colorado all of us at Strange Sounds wish you a Christmas Celebration that enhances your life. We hope each listener ponders the arrival of a baby two centuries ago who changed the world and finds the peace that only this Christ Child can give.
