Album Notes
IN THE RIGHT PLACE was the CD THE SWEET INSPIRATIONS recorded with composer, writer, producer PEITOR ANGELL during the years of 2003 to 2006 which was captured in the documentary film being released in August 2012, THIS TIME by director Victor Mignatti. This is the only commercial recording available of those sessions with The Sweet Inspirations at the top of their inimitable soulful form creating new classic soul songs in the millennium. Sadly after the recording of this CD both original members, Myrna Smith and Sylvia Shemwell passed away, making this recordings' alternate title, The Final Sessions.

From the Queen of Soul, to the King of Rock and Roll, THE SWEET INSPIRATIONS have provided the background vocals on over two hundred hit singles and more million-seller singles than any other group.

Unsurpassed in the industry, they were the most sought after background vocalists by producers to inspire their artists to their best work. In addition to their work on Aretha Franklin’s greatest recordings in the late 60’s and early 70’s, their numerous recordings and live performances with Elvis Presley to their work on most of Dionne Warwick’s recordings produced by Burt Bacharach, THE SWEET INSPIRATIONS also had hits and releases under their own name.

In 1967 Cissy Houston, Myrna Smith, Estelle Brown & Sylvia Shemwell were offered their own recording contract at Atlantic Records where they ultimately released five albums and numerous singles, leading off with their 1968 chart topper, “SWEET INSPIRATION” which reached #5 on the R&B chart and #18 on the Pop chart.

The Sweet Inspirations became even more in demand for background sessions as their popularity climbed. Shuffling between recordings and live performances with Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Elvis Presley as well as their own commitments.

Though Cissy Houston left the group after their last Atlantic Recording, the original members Myrna Smith, Estelle Brown & Sylvia Shemwell recorded an excellent album for Stax Records in Memphis in 1973. They continued performing with Elvis Presley for the next four years before going their separate ways to pursue individual careers.

Reunited in 1994 to perform on selected shows (including a tribute to Elvis Presley), the original trio of Estelle, Myrna and Sylvia were joined by Portia Griffin who had sung previously with Herbie Hancock, Bobbie Brown, Jeffrey Osbourne (for 18 years) and most recently The Black Crows.

A fortuitous meeting with Producer Peitor Angell brought them back into the recording studio where they recorded their first full-length solo CD in 25 years,
IN THE RIGHT PLACE containing 15 new original recordings. Peitor Angell set out to write and produce a CD capturing their original unique stylish vocal blend on top of new songs with contemporary beats. This venture produced the Billboard Top 40 Club Chart Hit single, “CELEBRATION”. Also from these sessions their song “I’M COMING OUT” was licensed for the original Logo movie, OPEN BAR while their version of “YOU MAKE ME FEEL GOOD” showed up in an E Diets commercial. They continue to tour with the Elvis Live show in the States and numerous engagements around the world.

The featured musicians on these sessions are Jack Wargo on Guitars, John Pena on Bass, Luis Conte on percussion, Paul Baker on Harp and Peitor Angell on Keyboards and Rhythm Programming. Brian Springer did additional engineering and mixing and the tracks were mastered by Kris Solemn at Future Disc.
