The Tor takes its name from old Celtic, tor. A tor is a mountain pinnacle or peak. Those with names are often sacred or bear special meaning to those who so named it. This album is a showcase of Jim Wade's interest in music. It is primarily Blues based, but carries in it, early rock influences of the late sixties as well. It's been described as sounding like surfer rock, the Doors, Dire Straits (Time and a Reason) and Black Sabbath (White Wolf).
All that said, two other tunes, Lady of the Tor and Long Ago are distinctly different. Lady of the Tor is written in an early 19 century mindset of old Irish seafarers and performed with traditional instruments. Long Ago evokes an atmosphere of ancient myths of the British Isles and combines acoustic and electronic instrumentation and layers of voices to create a fantasy and mythological aura.
To end the CD Lady by The Tor is a reprise of Lady of the Tor, but performed by the main band on modern instrumentation.
