Album Notes
Some words on The Tor Guides´ 2012 album Strawberries & Chocolates:

Alan Haber, Powerpop Radio: The Tor Guides' fine 2012 album, Strawberries & Chocolates, is a wondrous exercise in the art of pure pop music. The record's 11 songs are warm and full of gorgeous melodies, expertly written and played, and really hard to ignore. These are songs that stay with you long after they've played out. There was a big old smile on my face as songs like "Every Little Thing Is You," "Sweet Apple Pie," "In This World of You," "PS I Love You Too," and "Summer's Green" worked their magic on me. All five will be spinning in rotation on Pure Pop Radio in the next few days. Albums like this one are treasured here at Pure Pop Radio headquarters because they're so worthy of playing again and again. Torbjörn Pettersson's songs are perfect gems, masterpieces of the pure pop art. The Tor Guides is where it's at.

Absolute Powerpop: What better way to break up the dreary drudgery of winter than with a bright, sunny slice of Swedish pop? The Tor Guides have the answer with their first album after their 2007 debut, Honeybees & Tangerines. This time it's Strawberries & Chocolates, and the tunes are as sweet as the title. Just like their compatriots The Merrymakers and The Tangerines, The Tor Guides make it sound effortless on tracks such as "Every Little Thing" which features Torbjorn Pettersson's slightly nasal vocals (almost like a Swedish Chris Collingwood) and Jeff Lynne-style production, the buoyant "Summer's Green" (featured on the most recent IPO collection) and the aptly-named "Sweet Apple Pie". The observant among you may have noticed this disc slotted in at #4 on David Bash's year-end list for 2012. Since it really didn't get a proper US release until around the turn of the year (late December on Kool Kat, mid-January on iTunes), I'm going to put it on 2013's account where it probably has a top 10 spot locked up.

Kool Kat Musik: WOW!! We loved The Tor Guides' 2007 debut, but nothing could have prepared us for this gem! You can give these Swedish poppers the 2012 "Truth In Advertising Award" with this brilliant 11-song confectionary collection of sugar-sweet, sticky pop that's sure to warm the hearts of fans of Teenage Fanclub and The Merrymakers! "This is one of those records that hits you right away. Better yet though; it's one that you'll want to keep coming back to again and again. Lovers of guitar-based pop music will undoubtedly enjoy this record, a true pop gem! Wall to wall, delightfully melodic tunes and masterful musicianship are the order of the day here ladies and gentlemen. If you like sing-a-long choruses and great hooks; you will love this. If the word 'pop' makes you wiggle in your seat and smile, then you'll find more than a few gems on this record to satisfy your fix. Though some tunes are almost overly saccharine and exuberant, their sheer joy and catchiness result in this still being one of the finest 2012 albums of new-school power pop. It almost makes me want to pack up and move to Sweden! Trust me and buy this fabulous album. You will be instantly hooked." - Max Humphries Top notch songwriting, execution, jangly guitars, and stellar harmonies make this a legitimate, literally last-minute, "Top 10" of 2012 contender! Can't say enough about this one! GREAT!!
