Album Notes
The Trail Band is an 8-piece ensemble that creates an energetic blend of brass and string arrangements of traditional and original music featuring five great vocalists including Quarterflash's Rindy Ross. We've done hundreds of public and private appearances across America and Japan, and now, with "Joyride", have released our 13th album!
As would be expected from The Trail Band, this collection of 11 original songs spans multiple genres including folk, country, blues, swing, and jazz - and features amazing harmonies and virtuoso performances on guitars, cornet, violin, viola, tuba, trombone, mandolin, hammer dulcimer, accordion, recorders and penny whistle, banjo, bass, saxophones, tenor horn, drums and percussion (whew!) - creating a rich tapestry. And with humor and pathos, to boot!
(And for those of you that know us from our holiday albums, there is a new original Christmas song just for you!)

The Trail Band is: Marv Ross, Rindy Ross, Cal Scott, Mick Doherty, Dan Stueber, Gayle Neuman, Phil Neuman and Eddie Parente. We have now been together 24 years, and it has truly been a Joyride!

Like A River
Three part harmony gospel bluegrass with a big beat - and tackles the nature of God~ (Marv and Cal)

You & Me
A Celtic inspired folk song about the long road to forgiveness after a cruel separation~ (Marv)

Dixie Cup
Cal's story song about a couple that chooses to find happiness every day, even in the hard times. The chorus says it all: “It’s a good day when your car starts up and you can toast good fortune with a Dixie Cup.”

Taking My Time This Time Around
Is sung by a wary woman who has been hurt deeply and is being approached by a new person in her life ~ (Marv and Cal)

An old jazz inspired ditty offering an alternative form of therapy to overcome the blues. (Marv)

Bag o’ Bones
is a humorous look at the human condition using the musical stylings of the 1920's. (Marv)

After Cal’s parents passed away, Cal discovered a collection of lyrics to over fifty songs his grandmother had written in the 1930s. He combed through them and found this gem, originally called “Coffee Life." He adapted the lyrics and wrote this ragtime tune to go with them. A collaboration across time between Susan Isabella Scott and Cal Scott

Every Time it Rains
Is a country rocking light hearted romp about the little moments in life that we miss when we fall apart. (Marv)

Give Back The Money
Was inpired by Ry Cooder and the evening news. (Marv)

Jazz Chops
Examines the hardships of being a jazz musician through 4-part jazz harmony and some hot-jazz violin licks delivered by Eddie Parente.

Nothing Like Christmas Morning
Cal and Marv wrote this new Christmas song about how we occasionally lose the holiday spirit and forget what it felt like to experience Christmas Morning as a child. The joyous chorus is about rediscovering that wondrous feeling.
