Album Notes
“Swing-A-Nova,” the newest album from the Verve Jazz Ensemble, features toe-tapping VJE trio and quartet performances of 10 straight ahead bop and classic bossa / Latin jazz favorites. The album gives the VJE rhythm section of Josh Feldstein (drums), Steve Einerson (piano), and Elias Bailey (bass) the spotlight as a trio, and includes high energy, uptempo performances of such great swingers as "'Tis Autumn" and "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered,” together with vibrant Latin performances of Dizzy Gillespie's "Tin Tin Deo,” “This I Dig of You” by Hank Mobley, “Speak No Evil,” by Wayne Shorter, and many more favorites and standards.

From chill sambas to steamy mambos, the trio is joined by the soaring trumpet of Tatum Greenblatt on tracks 3, 4, and 9. "Swing-A-Nova" delivers a great array of signature VJE grooves, tempos, solos, and performances -- both swingers and Latin -- by the always jubilant Verve Jazz Ensemble!

Released on September 18, “Swing-A-Nova” is the VJE’s fourth album, and follows their three prior, chart-toping releases, “It’s About Time” (JazzWeek #5, 2013), “East End Sojourn” (#8, 2014), and “Perimeter” (#21, 2016).

Brilliant Jazz Joy!
What a joy to hear The Verve Ensemble’s newest contribution to today’s Jazz scene!! The range, variety and depth of their choice of songs, originals and standards, always excites and pleases. This is the Jazz that some have forgotten, but thank goodness this group has an appreciation of the true notes of the greats who precede them. Lyrical and swinging HOT!!! Spin this and start dancing with delight!!

Amazing Album!
Swing-A-Nova is an adventure from start to finish. The trio brings us along a winding path of slow and fast paced music, constantly changing the feel and spotlight. The band moves seamlessly with each other as they play, complimenting each other’s sound all the time. Adding the trumpet on select songs made the album even more enjoyable. They make it really easy to get lost in the music and enjoy.

The Music Practically Flows
You can really tell VJE had fun with this album. The music practically flows from the speakers as the trio plays together flawlessly. The constant change in tempo, feel, and even adding a fourth member (trumpet) to some songs keeps the album enjoyable and fresh. They constantly keep you guessing on what is coming up next and never fail to please with what they play.

First Time Listener; Will be Back!
First time hearing VJE; this album is hot! ‘Tis Autumn is killer! Playing that song so fast and still having control and expression of notes really speaks to the talent of the band. Every song has its own feel and keeps you very interested. Definitely will be listening to more of their stuff.

Excellent collection of Jazz Gems
This is a great collection of some of the greatest jazz gems around, all with the Verve Jazz Ensemble's tasty twists and tweaks. The VJE consists of some very talented musicians who have fun playing together. I've seen them perform live and love the way they interact with each other.
