Album Notes
The Wailin' Mahalias second recording, Angel Voices, a Christmas CD, is a breath of fresh air in December. This vocally driven ensemble infuses their arrangements of time honored and contemporary Christmas Carols with cherubic essence and drive.
"O Come O Come Emmanuel" evokes a middle eastern ride on camel back as a prayer for peace. They Ho-Down-Twang-It on "Go Tell it on the Mountain". "Greensleeves" begins as a stately English carriage ride then peels down a dirt road. Dare your feet to stay still during "We Wanna See Santa Do the Mambo". "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" is pared of heavy traditional overtones and lets it's cherubic essence rise. "Coventry Carol" soothes with haunting harmonies, recorder counter melodies; vocals cry as this lullaby comforts those of tender hearts. The season's lament "there's just so much to do!" is given baritone voice on "Even Santa Claus Gets the Blues". Closing homage is paid to the Roaches with an a Capella, three part "Hallelujah Chorus". What you hear is what you get with this 5 piece Chicago land performing Folk and Universal Gospel band.
