ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A couple of years ago I heard the song 'Come down Jehovah' by the English songwriter Chris Wood. It inspired me to write and to collect songs from other great songwriters who, at some point in their life, ran into the 'Big Questions'.
This album is the result of an intense collaboration with piano player, singer & composer Bart de Win and I want to thank him for guiding me through this musical adventure.
We gathered a group of fine musicians and named ourselves The Willowbees. This name was inspired by a great friend,
'Mr. Oklahomah', the late Tom Skinner, who, one day when I asked him to come up with an artist name, said that he though that 'Lilly Willowbee' would be a good choice...
My name is Ankie Keultjes, I spent most of my life working with my late husband, the great songwriter and musician, Ad van Meurs aka The Watchman, and I want to dedicate this album to his loving memory.

The Willowbees are :
Ankie Keultjes Lead Vocals
Bart de Win Piano, Wurlitzer& backing vocals
Fabian Louis Guitar
Eric van der Lest Drums
Frank Strokap Bass
Aggie de Kruijf, Yvonne Janssen& Jopie Jonkers Backing vocals
Ad van Meurs Slide guitar on 'In the name of Religion'

Album info:

Recorded at The Daltoon Studio Eindhoven by Eric van der Lest & Ankie Keultjes

I would like to thank all the people who stood by us during our 'hard times'...

Lyrics:

FAITH WILL ALWAYS RISE Music & Words Danny Schmidt ( Danny Schmidt Publishing)

Wouldn't you believe a man
Who showed you how to rise and stand
And hold your own forsaken hand
And lead you through the years
I would , I would , I'd follow if I could
But faith has always flashed and disappeard

Wouldn't you believe the words
A lover's lips might share with yours
Forever and forever more
A love that's not at war
I would, I would, I'd promise if I could
But faith has never touched my heart for good

Wouldn't you believe in work
If every day from death to birth
You turned a wrench that fixed the earth
With sweat that clenched a thirst
I would, I would, I'd labor like I should
But faith has never filled that hole with dirt

But every time and everywhere
A safety net of silver hair
That every climber knows is there
And all who fall would swear

And I would, I would, I'd swear it if I could
But faith has never caught me unprepared

So wouldnt you believe in life
If every blessed guess was right
And every question answered twice
Like shadows filled with light
I would, I would, I'd wake because I could
As faithful as the sun just knows to rise

IN THE NAME OF RELIGION Words A.M.A.H. Keultjes/ M.Jarvis
Music A.M.A.H.Keultjes/ L.P.J. de Win

They were girls, they were young
a colorful picture
frozen into a smiling still
now their flowers are picked by numerous scavengers
strewn about under their will

They were boys, they were young,
they were startled by preachers
teaching the concept of sin
now their dreams are haunted
by hands in the dark and whispers
creeping under their skin

CH When the powerful harm
in the name of religion
abusing those who believe
that love and trust are a meaningful vision
The Gods are brought down to their knees

They were boys, they were young
they were playfully gathering
silhouettes drawn in the sand
Erased from the picture in meaningless ravaging ?
by soldiers from a Holy land

They were boys, they were young
they lived under desert skies
witnessing chaos and hate
now they´re waving the flags in the name of a holy man
destroying the heart of their faith

CH If they carry a gun
in the name of religion
and they point it at those who believe
that the freedom of thought is a beautiful vision
The Gods are brought down to their knees

How can we ignore evolution's the core
when creation and nature reigns queen

We know it must run not from bombs in the sun
But by preaching a peacekeeping theme

Coz' when unity rules instead of division
That's the moment when we start to see
That creation is more than a childish vision
And we're finally down on our knees
We're all brought down to our knees

They were girls, they were young, a colourfull picture ...

LET LOVE PREVAIL Music&words A.M.A.H. Keultjes

You and I were standing in the pooring rain
on our way to Salisbury Cathedral
Underneath our red umbrella we remained
Quietly we watched the water fall

Inside the sacred house we saw the marble beds
Where lovers lay together carved in stone
Sleeping there eternally, forever wed
High above the arches of their home

Then suddenly the thunder struck
And shook this holy ground
And in the silence afterwards
Eternal truth did sound

Let love prevail , Let love prevail

You never know when love comes knocking at your door
A frail and tender visitor it seems
But keep her warm and feed her, give her ever more
She will reward you far beyond your dreams

And finally the truth will strike you
and it's so profound
And when you listen quietly forever it will sound

Let love prevail, let love prevail

LOOKS LIKE GOD Music&words Danny Schmidt ( Danny Schmidt Publishing)

Looks like God just spilled a sunset on the sky
Looks like God just spilled a sunset on the sky
My my, oh my, I might give my hand a try
And try and try and try

Looks like God forgot to fill the desert floor
Looks like God forgot to fill the desert floor
Lord Lord, oh lord, the faith to say no more
No more, no more, no more

Looks like God just tore the mountains at their seams
Looks like God just tore the mountains at their seams
So clean ,so clean, the tree line from the streams
So clean, so clean, so clean

Looks like God just broke the moon in half again
Looks like God just broke the moon in half again
Man man, oh man, it's still twice again as grand
So grand, so grand, so grand

Like a rope on a stallions neck
Hope in a poor man's chest
Everything that's broken had to be
Or like paint on the northern lights
Restraint in a lover's eyes
The perfect pitch of broken harmonies

Looks like God just spilled a sunset on the sky
Looks like God just spilled a sunset on the sky
My my, oh my, I might give my hand a try
And try and try and try

DOUBT Words A.A.M.M. van Meurs Music : A.A.M.M. van Meurs/ No Blues
Arr. L.P.J. de Win

Your love for me is like a wave
Your love for me is like a wave
It rules from above, quiet or rough
It carries me night and day

Your love for me is like the wind
Your love for me is like the wind
Gentle or strong, it tells me where I belong
It never will lead me astray

But sometimes you are so quiet
Yes sometimes, I hear nothing at all
And I wait and I listen, anxious as I am for your call
And I sit down in doubt

Your love for me is wind and wave
Your love for me is wind and wave
Fluid and swift, unworldly gift
Meanwhile I try to be brave

ST. CATHARINE'S Music&words A.A.M.M. van Meurs

The car broke down in St. Catharine's
We were coming from the falls
How the water hypnotised
Felt so little like I always do
When nature calls

The car broke down in St. Catharine's
Far away thunder barked
Looked at you and all the years coming down
In the hail and rain, whipping all the cars

Down by the well, down by the well
Down by the well we all are the same
Down by the well we're looking for an answer
Down by the well we're looking for a name

The car broke down in St. Catharine's
I saw my father's dying bed
For a moment he crossed the ocean, there he was
in that fifty dollar motel shed

The car broke down in St. Catharine's
He said, you've got to listen to your call
There is guitar , there is love , there's endurance
And nothing further at all

Down by the well , down by the well
'
down by the well we all are the same
Down by the well we're looking for an answer,
down by the well we're looking for a name
Down by the well, down by the well
Down by the well we all are the same
Down by the well your question is your answer
Down by the well you whisper your own name

And the road goes on
From St. Catharine's

RELIGIOUS LIES Music&words A.A.M.M. van Meurs

There's a man out there in this modern world
Loooking for long lost peace
Looking for the shelter of family and friends
A place to be at ease
He needs a story that will take him to the end
The wonder of a promising sky
But most of all the mystery
Of beautiful religious lies
Mystery and beautiful lies

He knows the language of the summer leaves
The fall, the winter the spring
He plucks his lines out of branches of trees
Sometimes you hear him sing
About how life is all about fading out
We are the aging kind
And then you'll find him longing for the mystery
Of beautiful religious lies
Beautiful religious lies

Once he knew what life was about
When he was nine years old
He and Mary out on the schoolyard
Discussing matters in the cold
And they would walk up and down, arm in arm
She's look him in the eye
And the bells would ring, the angels would sing
Of beautiful religious lies
Mystery and beautiful lies

THE VIRGIN OF THE HOLY OAK Words A.M.A.H. Keultjes Music A.M.A.H. Keultjes /L.P.J. de Win

On a day in early springtime
All of nature held it’s breath
There was a man who had no answer
He walked along a muddy path

It brought him to a quiet chapel
The Virgin of the Holy Oak
He walked inside with all his sorrow
This is how to him she spoke

I’ve asked the clouds to hide the sun’s warmth
To leave the water icy cold
Forbid the birds to build a nest
I’ve asked the leaves not to unfold

The ice was cracking neath his dog’s paw
While he walked along the path
A stirling’s song cut through the silence
All he felt was grief and wrath

Then she made him look into the mirror
Of the water dark and deep
He saw a chrystal clear reflection
And felt the wind of wisdom sweep

It swept away his troubled memories
The blinding mist of a bitter creed
And by the dark pond near the chapel
A man came back upon his feet
And by the dark pond near the chapel
A man came back upon his feet

LOOKING FOR YOU Words&music A.A.M.M. van Meurs ( Arising Artists publishing)

Over long roads and crossroads
Lost roads and rough roads
I’ve been looking for you
In the night time with a dark rhyme
Daytime without a dime
I’ve been looking for you

Each time I find you , you’re gone
You slip through my fingers
You leave me out there alone
Now I know, this thing might keep going on
It’s a sentence for life

I’ve been longing for eternity
I’ve digging for certainty
I was looking for you
On high waves , under dark skies
Denying thruth, crying for lies
I was looking for you

Each time ….

On love’s courts and battlefields
Heart’s aching, ready to yield
I’ve been looking for you

You’re a voice from the distance
You’re an ear that won’t listen
Still I’ll be looking for you
