ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
CELLO MUSIC FOR MEDITATION
When I play the cello, it is deeply focusing and where I can truly achieve flow (uninhibited state of energy without distraction or disturbance of thoughts). For me it is like meditation. It is pure, emotional and speaks to a deeper part of the being.

I want to share this with you.

BACKGROUND STORY
Hi, my name is Janice. I am a music producer & a cellist based in Amsterdam. A few years ago, I discovered meditation for the first time. I went to a 10-day Vipassana meditation course and without exaggeration, this transformed my life. For the first time, I felt truly free, and understood how to break free from the shackles I had placed on myself.

With a busy work and personal life, it’s always hard to simulate the same feeling as what I felt after the meditation course. However, I’ve discovered that playing the cello for me is the thing that can get me quickly into the meditation-mode. It is pure, emotional and speaks to a deeper part of the being. Not only I have felt so content when my mind is clear, but I have been able to come up with the best ideas, and make sharp decisions when I am in that state of mind.

I want to share this with you.

I’ve decided to create cello soundtracks to help you through your moods, situations and daily life peculiarities. I believe that with my cello music, you too can reach that "flow" in your daily life, whether it be for reading, cooking, writing, working, meditating, yoga, or for therapy/healing such as relief from chronic pain, PTSD, insomnia, break-up, or grief. Although the list is endless, the impact is certain.

THE MUSIC
The basis of my soundtracks is a deep low tone drone recorded on the lowest string of my electric cello and over the top I improvise sweeping cello melodies with my classical cello. The melodies are composed at 60BPM (beats per minute), which is the best tempo for the heart to relax. The drone stays on the same note the entire time. I believe changing chords disrupts and distracts the mind, whereas the low drone that stays constant can better provide peace and stability.

Each soundtrack is based on one of the emotions of psychologist Plutchik’s wheel of emotions. I compose each soundtrack according to the emotion I have picked.
