Album Notes
This is the only song that is not attributed to George, the singer/songwriter character in my novel "Bangalore Baloney." I included it as a sort of closing credits song. I wrote it sometime back after visiting Bangalore after a gap of over 10 years. I was shocked by how much it had changed for the worse. From a broader perspective, the song is also a commentary on the downside of progress and modernization. Every time some new building is put up, we are giving up something as well.

There’s a city that I come from
It’s in the East if you follow the sun
I lived there till I was twenty-five
It’s a part of me until I die
It was a sleepy little place till somebody said
“Let’s bring in more people and let them paint this town red”
Bangalore… Bangalore… Bangalore… Bangalore

They started by cutting the trees
And building big factories
Till there was no more room to grow
But still the people wanted more
They’ve got CNN; they’ve got KFC
They’ve got beauty queens; they’ve got global reach
Bangalore… Bangalore… Bangalore… Bangalore

It’s the same old story wherever I go
From Bangalore to Baltimore
Everything is changing in the blink of an eye
Makes a man like me want to break down and cry!

Now I go back when I can
And even though I’m still the same man
Everything I know has changed
My town’s been rearranged
Everyone I know is living on a wing and a prayer
Traffic policemen wear masks because you can’t breathe the air
Bangalore… Bangalore… Bangalore… Bangalore
