Here's What Press and Radio Folks Have To Say About Out To Sea:

"I love it!"-Miles Willis, KPFT-FM

"What do I think of Lisa Thorson? Shelia Jordan has a legacy."-Lazaro Vega, Blue Lake Public Radio

"Beautifully done."-Aaron Fensterheim, "My Kind of Jazz"

"I love her approach to things."- John Simna, WCLV-FM

"She has a very nice voice; not an ounce of forced emotion, just a very good natural sound."- William Kenz, ND Public Radio

"A stunning duet date."-Bob Young, Boston Herald

"Lisa Thorson's Out To Sea is the disc you'd challenge more well-known, well-promoted jazz singers to make. The Berklee College of Music voice instructor is always out on a limb in this set of duets."- Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen

"I am impressed by the voice (colorful and well controlled), beautiful piano accompaniment and rich sonority of the recording."-Guy Suave, CBC

"Through the medium of these lovely songs, the talents of these two exceptionally gifted artists are vividly displayed. Brought together as they are on Out to Sea, they are magical."
- Bruce Crowther, co-author of Singing Jazz: The Singers and Their Styles

"Lovely record. WEMU is going to play this record."-Linda Yohn, WEMU-FM

"Like a storybook marriage, [Thorson and Seung's] combined talents bring out the best in each other. The sound they create is a fresh sense of lyrical abstraction. Always lyrical, never atonal (well, almost never) she creates mystery, flirtation, heartbreak, celebration-the gamut of emotions often without using any words at all."-Chuck Graham, Tuscon Citizen

' I love [Out to Sea]. Lisa has one of the purest voices singing today. If it were a just world, she would be a star. " Steve Rubin, KZYX/KZYZ

CD Baby

It takes a lot these days for a female, vocal jazz album to stand out. This one got my attention. Several of these songs start out with delicate, trickling, sparkling piano lines that instantly engage the imagination. I might have guessed I was listening to contemporary classical piano- that is, up until her distinct and atmospheric voice merges with the musical thought. I am left with the certain impression that these are two artists in sync, drifting on the same wave of inspiration. For an unusual, delicate album that emphasizes piano work as much as the vocals and trades in familiarity with originality, give this delightful gem a spin.

Fabulous and mesmerizing
The partnership of Lisa and Cho Yoon Seung is one of the best I've ever heard. Individually, they excel in their own right, but together, they shine most brighly, complementing each other so well that, at times, you find yourself wondering where one begins and the other ends. With new and insightful treatments of old favorites, this CD is never boring and will not disappoint.

A plus!
I give Lisa an A for her technique as a vocalist and as a teacher. I can't wait to see her in concert!
