Album Notes
On their debut release, "Seductivity", Times 4 presents an energetic concoction of all-original music, integrating groove-based funk/hiphop beats with modern harmony and improvised jazz.

"Seductivity" features a wide range of musical beats and flavors that reflect the eclectic backgrounds of the musicians. From straight up jazz/funk to latin to blues to middle eastern tinge, a diverse musical journey is embarked on in the name of progressive jazz.

One of the showcase tracks on the CD is Track 5, entitled "Down Low", in honor of the venue at which it was recorded (The Shattuck Down Low, Berkeley, California). It was performed with an approach most characteristic of Times 4 - no preconception of form or direction, no musical notation - simply freestyle musical improvisation that never sacrifices the strength of a powerful groove - truly progressive jazz.

Times 4 is an instrumental performance quartet of San Francisco Bay Area natives. They deliver a potent force of fresh, energetic interplay steeped in the history of friendship and common musical roots.

Times 4 is Lincoln Adler (saxophone), Kevin Lofton (bass), Maurice Miles (drums), and Greg Sankovich (keyboards). Maurice and Kevin are friends and musical collaborators since high school; likewise, Lincoln and Greg continue a musical dialogue that also dates back to their teen years.

The members of Times 4 have, together and individually, traveled the world contributing their talents to a wide range of musical projects with many renowned artists, and have recorded music on over 20 distinguished record labels.

All Music Guide - Scott Yanow

...a fine example of the funkier side of jazz.
Times 4 is an excellent and tight funk/jazz group. Both tenor saxophonist Lincoln Adler and keyboardist Greg Sankovich are expert at setting danceable grooves and, although Adler's originals are generally pretty basic, the music develops well and holds onto one's attention. The bass-drums team of Kevin Lofton and Maurice Miles is tight and the quartet often thinks as one. The live group improvisation "Down Low" is a solid and coherent change of pace. Seductivity succeeds as both funky dance music and a fine example of the funkier side of jazz.

All About Jazz

....grabs you like a magnet and never lets go.
The quartet's exciting program grabs you like a magnet and never lets go. These players can hold your enraptured attention for marathon sessions, as they do on the album's live track, “Down Low,” or they can provide you with music to make your day a whole lot brighter, as they do on this highly recommended album.

...some massive, creative jazz, fusion funk.
...what you should expect from this disc is some massive, creative jazz, fusion funk...It is like the Average White Band meets the Headhunters meeting Down To The Bone...No fluff, just mind exploring, but extremely fun, rhythmic music.

The VibeMistress - Soul Sanctuary Radio

This is sexy stuff!
This is sexy stuff! Times 4 is a quartet that rides the line between jazz and funk to eargasmic effect. There’s stuff on this disc that will bring about the stank face as easily as it will make you snuggle closer to your chosen cold weather companion. So no, seductivity is NOT a real word. But these tunes will make you believe it is. Somehow the coined term seems perfectly appropriate to describe this sound.

Awesome CD....sounds better every time I listen!
Awesome CD....sounds better every time I listen, as I get into the nuance and details. It's on my iPod now, so it goes everywhere with me! Lincoln and the band are smokin'.

The band will certainly gain much respect and acclamation by jazz friends and fa
Currently Lincoln is living in Berkeley, California again, where he met Maurice Miles (drums), Greg Sankovich (keyboards) and Kevin Lofton (bass). All together they founded the band "Times 4" and their debut album is "Seductivity" (2004). You can see the cats often performing in Jupiter 2181 Shattuck Avenue (at Center Street), Berkeley. A popular place for drinking, eating, small talks and live music. The new album is exactly catching the atmosphere of a live group with a big bunch of fusion. Don't await Smooth Jazz. Honestly: Lincoln's secret love is contemporary jazz and that album is a lot of fun.

Times 4 is a multiple of genius...
Sure “seductivity” might not really be a word but if Times 4 has anything to do with it, it most certainly will have great meaning. Mixing together the sounds of contemporary jazz with funk and even a sprinkle of hip-hop, Times 4 is a multiple of genius. The title track features a groovy bass line that shows how great at freeform they are (check out “Down Low”, a live improv that will make the best jazz artist blush) and what amount of talent this quartet has at their fingertips. Always progressive and destined to shake the earth and move the whole music scene forward, Times 4 is a band that needs to be heard not just read about. So what are you waiting for?

One of the best of '04. Great musicianship; great tunes.
This cd ranks with one of the best I've bought in 2004. If you like your contemporary jazz with an edge, you'll love this cd. There is some funk, some Latin, a little progressive, all done with an electric vibe. Most importantly, there is no skimping on the tunes: most are over 5 minutes; six exceed 6 minutes in length. Great stuff.
