ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
LE MOULIN DU BRUEL

Come and walk…

through the tranquil springtime green of the limestone woods in the Tarn-et-Garonne…

along the rippling stream of La Seye…

from the poignant serenity of the Abbaye de Beaulieu…
to the cheerful Grand Mill of Ginals…

Le Moulin du Bruel.

THE TRACKS

1. La Seye
Soundscape of the flow of a small, shaded river in forest and valley pasture. Piano with string pads as the central rippling motif with swelling synth strings and a delicate use of horn. A harp is used for flashes and sparkles.

2. The Limestone Woods
Walking through the oak woodlands and forests in spring, with the harsh limestone underfoot and a light green canopy overhead. Piano in solid four-square New Age harmonies.

3. Le Moulin du Bruel
Bright and cheerful atmospheric soundtrack to accompany a walking pace approach to the 18th century mill at Ginals, Tarn-et-Garonne.

4. The Cross
A single person at private prayer at a garden cross. Poignant flute with guitar and digital string pads, slow moving, prayerful and slightly pleading.

5. The Kitchen & the Sketcher
Two harps and bass with a touch of strings in a gently rolling folk-song theme.

6. The Spiral Staircase
A simple romantic-era classical waltz. Unadorned piano. Direct performance recording.

7. The Millpond S
low moving ambient music: piano, strings, and a flute wandering about picking in the edges of the millpond banks. Shimmering light, still water with occasional drops and ripples, dappled tree shade.

8. The Coypu in the Millpond
Piano frolicking about in impressionist-style irregular rhythms and harmonies.

9. The Upstairs Room
Piano, flute, harp in a conversation on a warm spring afternoon with dalliance on the mind....

10. The Bridle Path
A simple orchestral walking tune for the spring woods: Flute, Clarinet, piano, strings, bass.

11. Abbaye de Beaulieu
The restored Abbaye de Beaulieu-en-Rouergue, on La Seye. High boy's choir, strings and pipe organ, evocative of formal late 18th Century church music. Slow, measured, a degree of underlying sadness.

12. The Water Meadow The water meadows along the river La Seye, a sea of lush bright green grass and herbs with a field-of-gold of buttercups. Limpid impressionist piano with string pads for lazy late spring afternoon listening.

13. The Freshet
Fast classical piano rippling: a fast small stream descending the limestone hills to the valley of La Seye.

14. The Wayside Shrine
Piano, flute, strings in a thoughtful mood inspired by a wayside shrine.

15. The Broken Bridge
A setting for views of a derelict mossy footbridge crossing the rushing La Seye. Strings, piano and clarinet bubbling along quickly.

16. Remembering
Piano, strings and woodwinds in a slow but rich and sweeping poignant theme. Uses the same motifs as "The Limestone Woods" but has a very different, fuller orchestral sound.

17. The Spring House / La Seye
Quiet piano and string pads, starting at a small spring inside a spring house, then the stream flowing faster and larger into La Seye, with fast rippling keyboard and synths, finally becoming lost in the Dordogne.

THE PLAYER

Tim Fatchen is a master pianist and keyboard player. He writes inventive music which is accessible but not banal. Most of his available music is a mix and fusion of New Age, classical and neo-classical, neo-Celtic and western European-folk harmony, melody and rhythm. There are influences from classical-romantic, impressionist, and new age styles, and from the far older Anglo-Celtic dance and folk song tradition filtered through Cecil Sharpe and Percy Grainger.

-----------------------------------------------------

THE PLAYED

The music is played on acoustic piano, digital pianos and keyboards, with layered and midi-supported orchestral and band interpretations.
