Album Notes
“I just felt like talking to the best songwriter I know."
Townes Van Zandt

"West Virginia in My Dreams” is Volume 4 of a six-CD Legacy Collection created to celebrate, disseminate, and honor the music of Tim Henderson – a phenomenal songwriter and balladeer whose songs were held in high regard by legendary musicians including Tom Paxton, Allen Damron, Kate Wolf, Stan Rogers, Peter Yarrow, and Townes Van Zandt.

Gathered over the years at festivals, house concerts, bars, and studios, these recordings take us on a journey into the kaleidoscopic world of Tim Henderson - genius, poet, storyteller, seeker, jokester. Our goal has been to help Tim’s songs, tales, and spirit remain -- both for those of us who loved him and for new listeners as well.

Born in the coal country of West Virginia, Tim kept his deep affection for his native state and his family who remained there throughout the forty years he lived in his adopted state of Texas. These songs about Appalachia are full of heart, compassion, humor and, by turns, melancholy. They speak eloquently of this unique part of America, its people and its history.

In the late 1980’s, Tim was honored to play on Mountain Stage. This was the only time his dad, Bud Henderson, had the chance to see his son perform. Upon returning to their Charleston home, Bud proudly told his wife, “Carm, he’s really, really GOOD.” Tim’s ashes are buried in the beautiful Spring Hill cemetery on a mountain hilltop overlooking his boyhood home in Charleston’s Kanawha River valley.
