ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“I just felt like talking to the best songwriter I know."
Townes Van Zandt

In 2011, Tim won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Music Awards for his “Timeless contributions to Texas Music”. Tim’s award winning ballads give eloquent voice to the stories of America.

This six-CD Legacy Collection intends to celebrate, disseminate, and honor the music of Tim Henderson – a phenomenal songwriter and balladeer whose songs were held in high regard by legendary musicians including Tom Paxton, Allen Damron, Kate Wolf, Stan Rogers, Peter Yarrow, and Townes Van Zandt. Tim was a popular performer at venues like the Kerrville Folk Festivals, The Walnut Valley Festival, and Mountain Stage. Over fifty of his songs have been recorded by other artists, Including Tompall and the Glaser Brothers, whose brilliant recording of “Maria Consuelo” was on the Country Charts.

This Collection offers Tim’s songs to a new generation of Americana or roots music aficionados… Talented musicians may find new gems here they will record. Even longtime admirers will discover unheard treasures in this collection of tales, jokes and songs.

The 75, or so, recordings were gathered from throughout Tim’s life, from live festival stages, in the studio, from house concerts, and impromptu performances, taking us on a journey into the kaleidoscopic world of Tim Henderson - genius, poet, storyteller, seeker, jokester. The sound quality does vary, the song quality never does.

These CDs will help keep Tim’s songs, tales, and spirit alive — both for those of us who loved him and for new listeners as well.

Excellence in poetry and song
This is one of the best sets I have heard. Lovingly put together, the tracks will delight fans, and make fans from those new to Tim Henderson's music. As poetic as musical, Tim's words often cut through the chaff straight to the heart of a matter. Beautifully mastered from the catelog of Tim's songs, there are some on here new to most of us. What a great set! Worth the investment.

Many hours of fine listening to great songs with a few extras!
Tim can write circles around most singer-songwriters, plus there's a fine disc of Allen Wayne Damron doing Tim's songs. If you like ballads, stories, poetry, Americana, or folk, you'll love this collection.

one of the greats
CD Baby says: "Recommended if you like John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Woody Guthrie". I guess that pretty much sums it up. If you don't know Tim's songs, get this set and discover the undiscovered Guy Clark. If you do, you know Tim covered the whole spectrum from sublime to ridiculous. Allen Damron's great versions are welcome too, like The Byrds covering Dylan. Many, many gems here. And yes, Maria Consuela is a great song and a classic, but my personal favorite is Wildflower Time.
