Album Notes
Tim Mackey is a multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist who literally "defines" the term ONE MAN BAND. He self produces all his albums and has the ability to record ALL the tracks and instruments HIMSELF. He is most known for his incredible talent as a guitarist, but out of necessity, has trained himself to perform on a variety of other instruments (violin, banjo, bass, mandolin, drums, etc) at an equally impressive level. This allows him to play all of what you hear on his albums himself and have total control over arrangements and production details. Tim also does ALL of the studio recording, mixing and mastering work as well.

If you like smooth jazz. . . you will LOVE Tim's latest release entitled "Smile For Me". This is Tim's first ever album of all-ORIGINAL material. After a year of writing, arranging and recording; the result is some of the best smooth -- easy listening instrumental jazz featuring several types of guitars and electric violin that you will find anywhere. The style of these ORIGINAL instrumentals is very much influenced by Tim's de facto mentors; George Benson, Earl Klugh and Larry Carlton.

Please refer to the "artist page" link to see Tim's other albums. Thank you.

Tim Mackey's BIO:

First let me explain a little about my musical background. I have played the guitar since I was 9 years old. At age 14 I began appearing regularly on local live Radio and TV shows on the affiliates of CBS (KOIN) and ABC (KATU) as a guest soloist all during high school.

During college I appeared locally on stage as the lead guitarist in traveling shows with Glen Campbell, Buck Owens, Sherri Lewis, Burl Ives, and other shows including the Ice Capades orchestra, Rose Festival Concert orchestra and others. I also was hired at times as a studio musician to record music for TV and radio commercials.

The summer I graduated from PSU I appeared with Della Reese for two weeks at the grand opening of the GreenWood Inn. I also had a full load of guitar and banjo students and I worked full time at Portland Music Company for several years.

In the late 70’s I used my education and transitioned into the “hi-tech” marketing jobs, climbing the corporate ladder at companies like Tektronix, Hewlett-Packard and others -- leaving my music behind.

After 18 years of that I went into business for myself, running an ad agency for 9 years and then getting my real estate license in 1999.
The nice thing about my work in real estate is the ability to make my own decisions as to how to spend my time. I have been fortunate enough to be able to make a good living in real estate with time left over to again pursue my love for music.

For the last 8 years I have been studying the violin with Hugh Ewart, the retired CONCERTMASTER of the Oregon Symphony.

My in home recording studio includes a 32 track digital recording platform, a digital drum machine, a full set of Hart Dynamics electronic drums and a guitar synthesizer that allows me to create almost any instrument or voice sound with a special guitar plugged into it that drives the synthesizer.

I play, record and teach ALL styles of guitar (acoustic, electric and classical), mandolin, violin, bass and 5-string banjo.

My dream is to get some record producer somehwere to "discover" me and help me launch a recording career like George Benson, Earl Klugh and Larry Carlton have enjoyed..... as there are not that many good instrumental guitarists producing albums these days with "listenable music" for "adults".

Excellent music by a top notch palyer
Mr Mackey has the ability to transport you to the most wonderful places with his music. His deep knowledge of form, his amazing proficiency with every single instrument he plays and his excellent musical taste, invite you to begin a musical journey that fills your heart with joy. Smile for me is one of the jewels in my CD collection. Bravo maestro !

Tim Mackey's "Smile For Me" CD
I have several of Tim's previous CD's and this is by far the best! A lot of Tim's fans have been bugging him to write some original songs for years and now he has delivered with some of the best smooth jazz instrumentals to come along in quite some time. All these songs have catchy melody lines, great rhythms and Tim's solo's are always tasteful and clean. I think George Benson, Earl Klugh and Larry Carlton would all like Tim's work - and be honored that he considers them his "mentors".

Feeling Too Blue? Listen to this . . . .
If you like your jazz moody, dark, pensive, or kind of melancholy, this CD may not for you. But if you find yourself in that all-too-blue state, then maybe it is. Tim has the uncanny ability to masterfully craft a compelling rhythmic groove topped with a lyrical, memorable melody that ensures an uplifting musical experience. Probably because as a perfectionist Tim plays strings with virtuosity, can record, and then properly mix all elements of his music into a tasteful offering, this CD is the perfect stringed instrument jazz lover’s CD – Tim’s music, done his way, but always with his audience’s satisfaction in mind. Bottom line, you’ll want to leave this one in your CD player for that regular, necessary escape from the blah discordant incoherencies that so often passes today for “music.”

Good stuff
Tim is my guitar teacher and a wonderful guitars, this CD is some good stuff and you should give it a try.

Tim has done it again! I have several of his CDs and enjoy them all. This CD shows his mastery of several different instruments.

Smile For Me CD by Tim Mackey
I just bought one of these directly from Tim and I wanted to encourage CD baby customers to get this CD. Tim is a fantastic musician who has the ability to play ALL the instrument tracks on his albums (guitars, bass, drums, synthesizers, violin, etc) I really don't know of any other artist who could pull off this with such a high level of playing skill on all those instruments. On guitar, Tim has the George Benson/Earl Klugh/Larry Carlton type guitar sounds NAILED, and his technique is SO CLEAN that every note comes through with purity and taste; something lacking with a lot of JAZZ guitar players, who simply try to play "as many notes as possible" rather than create "musical lines" with the proper combination of tasteful notes and "space" which defines a true ARTIST. The mix and quality of this CD is great. This is one worth adding to your musical collection!
