ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Double Single is the latest ‘EP’ CD release by New York based saxophonist Tim Otto. The trio recorded live in late 2018 with Otto on tenor sax, Simon Chardiet on double bass and John Bollinger on drums. The four new compositions highlight Otto’s robust tenor sound and moody improv, coupled with the energy and of Charidet’s driven bass playing on top of the creative foundation of Bollinger’s drumming.
Otto’s career has landed him in a multitude of stylistically diverse groups over the years, and he has performed all over the US, Europe, Australia and Asia, with one particularly memorable tour to the highlands of Papua New Guinea performing along local tribes and Mud Men. His versatility appears in many different musical worlds and contexts; as a performer, composer and an educator and can be heard alternately on tenor, soprano, baritone saxophones plus other woodwinds. He has led groups such as Free Ride, The Pink Noise Saxtet, and Harmony Hall, plus has played with artists as varied as downtown lounge act The Last of The International Playboys, the NYC Ska Orchestra, Sun Ra cover band and Knitting Factory 90’s regulars Myth Science, rock band Firewater, Paul Walfisch, Jay Rodriguez, The Rob Reddy Ensemble, blues legend Pinetop Perkins, the Virgil Moorefield Ensemble, and many others. He has performed for film, tv and off-broadway shows, and can also be seen and heard as the drummer in a punk klezmer band and playing clarinet on the soundtrack in the indie movie ‘Dummy’ starring Mila Jovovitch and Adrien Brody. Otto also founded the annual Rockaway Beach Jazz Festival in 2014 which features an array of NYC jazz talent every summer on the famous New York boardwalk.
