ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
My sixth release on CD baby is fourteen original songs including another one from my granddaughter Zella. This is her second song contribution. At 13 years of age, Zella wrote and performs here as she did on previous release 'My 5th Little Monster (track 8 entitled 'I KNOW' featuring Zella McNichols). For my part, as always, I write in many styles/genres... focusing on blues, rock and ballads but have added a country song, and one of spoken word. A couple of tunes are instrumentals. Many of the songs are newly penned but several others have been with me in some form or another for many years, finally recorded or re-recorded, finished here on my sixth release "Six Wishes and a Bottle of You".

Track one BOWLING ALLEY BARMAID is a recently written tune, although I had been working from a true premise of this persona since my time at my favorite Champaign, Illinois hangout - The Alley Cat. I combined this with embellishments from many bowling alley experience(s) performing with the band, Ryder, who's mainstay venues were a chain of bowling alleys across central Illinois.

The lyrics in the second song, FOREVER FRACTURED, came from a poem I wrote called 'Rocks Between'. Basically the idea was to use imagery of fractures within crystals to link to a broken relationship. Visit Sedona Az to gain full recognition that here is great power in crystals. Even in the science of measuring time, pulses from quartz crystals were used for precise measurement. Lyrics in the song captured this broken relationship 'it sparkled like the rock on the finger of your angry fist'. I have used the imagery of rocks/minerals as a theme in the song 'Crystal' which was on my second CD release 'Too Far From Nowhere'. What got me started down that road was a terrifying vertigo that I experienced while asleep that woke me to a spinning nightmare. Medical staff identified this caused from loose crystals breaking loose and floating about in my inner ear. It could happen to you too.

The third song, MEET ME ON THE SLY is a laid back bluesy instrumental that lets me cut loose on my guitar. It was fun to do using chord changes I don't often utilize.

HIT THE ROOF- 4th song on this release, evokes a young persons projection of self as they begin to making life decisions based on personal observation being under the parental thumb.

Title cut - SIX WISHES AND A BOTTLE OF YOU a reflective look at life decisions, hopes, wishes and dreams. And memories.

LAST NIGHT IN LUCCA - a pensive instrumental... wrote this on a borrowed guitar from a Lucchese friend of a Lucchese friend (named Luca) on my last night of a visit to the medieval town of Lucca, Italy. Title could be interpreted two different ways.

Track 7 ASSUME THE WORST -a realization that the dissolution of an old friendship had surprisingly gone past its last chance for resolve.

Track 8 YOUR BAD HABITS - Yes this is a country song, originally penned and recorded in 1984, finally got its way outta me in a new rendition. A somewhat silly, but somewhat true, lyric outlining the story of a womans' slow but steady ramping intensification of dangerous consumption.

WINTER CALLING - wrote and recorded this in 1989 shortly after my son was born. Hanging out in his room while he napped, starring out his bedroom window at the unusual snowflake event occurring upon our central Texas home. Birds circling way up high, seemingly oblivious to the weather happenings are what got this lyric started. Re-recorded with new instrumentation, I still wanna do an all acoustic version of this song...in the style it was originally written.

Track ten is CHANT OF BANISHMENT - a spoken word lyric set to driving music. This is a reworking of an old song I did in 1982, a jazzy style tune oddly entitled 'Hot Rock'- clicked with me when I gave it this new twist. Lyrics completely altered using a combination of a poem of mine 'The Sound Machine and Sweet Crimson Clover' with a Pagan chant I dragged off the internet somewhere. It calls for protection from any evil that may be thrust towards you. Except for changing the key, utilizing different instrumentation, adding a new intro, and different outtro, I kept much of the original jazzy feeling main body as it was.... just added the voice overs. 'Hot Rock' was included as track 6 on the self produced CD entitled 'Tim Rogers 10 Songs from 1973-1992'.

NO RAINBOWS - is the song Zella brought to the studio - a song of colors & light and rainbows for all your friends. The second song included on my music releases written and performed by my 13 year old grand daughter. Zella put together the melody, lyrics and most of the chordal progression with a strumming style guitar. I produced the song with a reggae style bass and pianos. One of Zella's several other songs is included on previous release 'My 5th Little Monster (track 8 entitled 'I KNOW' featuring Zella McNichols).

HAUNT OF THE RUSSIANS DREAM - The story of which was a difficult concept to get across in just a few verses. Basically a line of succession problem in old Czarist Russia. The new bride comes up with a scheme to secure the lineage that at first fails to convince, but successfully passed the bloodlines (through wolves?) to present day.

Track 13 - No matter how you spell it TALULLAH BLUE (aka Tallulah, or Tallula) ..a Choctaw (native American) word/description loosely translated to mean 'Waterfall'. I wrote this song with huge sense of sadness over desperately to hold on to the memories of a young girls adolescence all the while helping her emotional growth into a strong independent young woman. The represented image for me was guiding the jumping blue water gently over the falls to keep her safe as she is....Talullah but keeping a deep pool of water.

The final song of this release, TAKING A BREATHER is a mostly standard blues progression, set with some sort of cry-in-my-beer-mug country style lyrics, and a fun echo/overdriven guitar. Original title would just confuse the innocent...was 'LateNight Pigsausted'
