Tom Marion of Robert Crumb’s 1970’s band “The Cheap Suit Serenaders” is featured with the spirited Japanese Hot Jazz acoustic string band “The Sweet Hollywaiians” performing old time Swing, American, Italian, Hawaiian and Puerto Rican jazz and folk tunes.
The CD has expert playing by Tom and the band who have studied older styles made famous by the Italian’s Eddie Lang (Paul Whiteman Orchestra), Nick Lucas and the famous lap steel player Sol Hoopii. The CD is rich with mandolins, lap steel guitar, ukuleles, acoustic stand up bass, banjo, mandocello, mandola and of course guitars.
As a child Tom (who is Italian) learned traditional songs from his Sicilian grandfather and brings an authentic style to everything he plays. He currently can be heard on 4 of the amazing Janet Klein and Her Parlor Boys 5 CDs playing guitar, mandolin and banjo.
The Sweet Hollywaiians (residing in Japan) are young Japanese fellows who have mastered 1920’s – 1940’s Hawaiian swing calypso.
