Southland

by Todd Hoke

Acoustical. Bluesyfied. Folksyish. Whimsytinged. Countryfried. Songs laid down in the south but--like kudzu and Wal-Mart--creeping beyond the land of sweet tea and collards. Deeply dark darkened depth sits hand in hand with frivolity. Much like life, yes?

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Album #3 here, and my best effort. It sounds good and looks good. I'm proud proud proud of it and hope you enjoy the results.

I recorded Southland in Austin and my friends are all over it. Huge fun, it was. My first ever ukulele song is on this CD. This is my first CD with an honest-to-Pete-Fountain horn section. And harmonizers from Canada. And a sing-along chorus (okay--yes--I did that on Heavenly Houseboat Blues but this one's even chorusier).

90% of the recording was with Jeff Tveraas at his studio (Cheshire Moon, Austin) with one live track cut at Chris Gage's studio (Moonhouse Studio, Austin). Mastered by Michael Hynes at Nomatic Studio (Asheville, NC).

100% of the money from this album will go to the good folks at Feeding America in support of their work to end hunger in the USA. Check 'em out online at www.feedingamerica.org.

And thanks.
