On Ice

by The Goombahles & Todd Wilkinson

The Tunes:

A Flock of Beagles -
My upgrade to A Flock of Seagulls, one of the worst choices for a band name I've ever heard.

Bossa Mi Mucho -
This is a samba I've been kicking around for years. Nothing complicated just a simple melody and some nice changes to blow over.

Check Please -
This is the instrumental hook I used on a tune called Flesh Colored Mazda. We recorded this in the rock band Boko Maru, and put on a CD entitled Dreamland which was issued on FunPro Records in 2000.

Cockatoo Blues -
This is an eleven bar Bird blues.

Homage to Evans -
I love Bill Evans, especially the album Portrait in Jazz. This is my tribute to the man. Listen to the opening for a hint of Blue in Green.

Hymn for the Children -
This is a tune for my daughter Aubrey, and son Mason. It was originally inspired by the vertical melodic features found in the Dizzy Gillespie tune, Con Alma.

Immolatin' Rhythm -
This is music to set yourself on fire by…. Not really, it's a rhythm changes with every chord sub I could muster. And it's not fast enough to create any friction.

Metromorphosis -
You got me on this one.

Moose and Squirrel -
This was inspired by Chick Corea, especially his Spanish stylings in tunes done with Return to Forever.

Patricia -
A ballad I wrote for my wife about the time we were married in 1992!

Three Four Patti -
This is a tune that plays around with the transition between 3/4 and 4/4. After all, aren't they really the same thing?

Todfirmation -
I couldn't resist moving the rests around in Confirmation. It's hard enough to play the line as Parker wrote it, but why not? If you haven't heard how Steve Coleman does this, check out his CD with Five Elements, Def Trance Beat (Modalities of Rhythm). It blows my mind!

Two in the Bush -
I originally wrote this tune at the time of George Bush Jr.'s second term election. My thinking was, I guess it's better than one in the hand. The descending whole tone cycle is tricky to navigate.

Hope You Enjoy,
Todd W.
