Latest Tom Caufield
JUST RECEIVED A COPY OF THE LATEST TOM CAUFIELD ALBUM “TALES FROM THE WINE DARK SEA” AND, AS WITH HIS PREVIOUS THREE RECORDINGS TOM INCORPORATES A WIDE VARIETY OF STYLES ALL COMING WITHIN WHAT YOU’D CALL A SOLO GUITAR ALBUM.
I’VE ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM WITH “SOLO” INSTRUMENT ALBUMS SUCH AS GUITAR AND PIANO AS I’VE FOUND I CAN LOSE INTEREST AFTER A FEW TRACKS NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE ARTIST IS SIMPLY BECAUSE THERE’S NO OTHER INSTRUMENTS TO GRAB MY ATTENTION BUT THE TRICK IS TO WRITE REALLY STRONG COMPOSITIONS THAT KEEP THE LISTENER ON YOUR SIDE AND THAT’S WHERE TOM REALLY HITS THE NAIL . . . THROUGHOUT ALL HIS PREVIOUS ALBUMS HE HAS ALWAYS TRIED TO SPREAD HIS TALENTS OVER MANY GENRES FROM AMBIENT TO EXPERIMENTAL, RELAXATION, LIGHT JAZZ AND ON THIS LATEST RELEASE SO-CALLED RURAL, AMERICAN-STYLE PIECES AND EVEN SOME TRADITIONAL IRISH AND TURKISH BALLADS AND IF THAT SOUNDS A BIT TOO EXTREME THEN I STRESS THAT YOU DO LISTEN TO “TALES FROM THE WINE DARK SEA” AS TOM PUTS HIS OWN STAMP ON MUSIC FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD. THIS IS A TRULY EXCEPTIONAL SOLO GUITAR ALBUM.
