by Duarte

A blend of Spanish, Brazilian and Classical guitar work with a light jazz touch. The setting is both solo performance as well as three of the Brazilian pieces played with a full rhythm section and percussion. The playing here is breathtakingly beautiful.

Album Notes
Duarte's musical style is firmly based in traditional Latin music, while referencing elements of funk and jazz fusion.

His playing remains beautiful and communicative throughout, reflecting a true sense of the gypsy spirit. In his solo acoustic playing, as well as in his searing electric solos, he plays with a passion that equally captivates the listener.

The youngest of seven children, Duarte was exposed to a broad range of musical styles, including rock, folk, and big band jazz. In grade school, his Spanish teacher would often stay after class, playing and singing Flamenco music, and accompanying herself on the guitar. This was a major influence in his development.

Duarte began playing guitar at age 12, becoming lead guitarist in a rock band within four months. His innovation and curiosity led him to classical music and jazz during high school, and he continued playing acoustic styles as therapy from the rock bands.

After leaving school, Duarte began to work professionally, playing R&B, funk, and other styles, touring and playing session dates. As he gravitated towards Latin music in the '80s, it soon became his main focus. He lived in England for a while, gigging there and throughout Europe. He toured with ex-Jerry Garcia keyboardist Merl Saunders, and played on recordings with ex-Santana/Journey keyboardist/vocalist Gregg Rolie.

Duarte's first Latin CD, Leyenda , was a mixture of classical, Spanish and Brazilian-contemporary music. His new release, Diamante, is a Latin-centric outing that focuses on danceable Brazilian grooves and fiery solo Flamenco pieces.

Duarte is currently working on music for his forthcoming CD which will be comprised of mostly original compositions. Plans are to return to Brazil during 2006 to play, record and teach.

**Almost as perfect as Diamante!**
This is some truly beautiful work... Duarte's combination of talent and obvious love of what he does makes listening to Leyenda a joy.

I'm left with two questions:
When can we hope to see the live DVD I've heard rumors of? and: How many fingers does this guy have...??

Tom's music is sheer joy, his talent is awesome.
This CD is beautiful from start to finish. He has the classical sound but with his own touch, and the mix of songs makes it truly wonderful to listen to over and over. Bring on CD #2!

it's a blessing
angels hang onto the tips of his fingers making magic happen.

intricate, catchy tunes and arrangements, nice mix
Enjoyed the music and I thought it was very greatifying that the artist has donated royalties to hurricane relief.

Fire up and forget. An all day CD!
I had been looking for two things a great all day CD that I could pop in and listen too for extended periods of time. Background music that is fun, inspiring, etc. The other thing was I didn't have a version of Leyenda, a song I first heard listening to my guitar teacher play at a local gig way back (he left me to play for the NBC orchestra, traitor!) My internet search listed this CD with samples at CD baby. I was listening to them all day long at work and tried to find the CD local and affordable. Finally just ordered it. Now the only problem I have is getting the player to Loop the CD :-) Great CD!

Wonderful music.
What more can one expect from such a great name. If you appreciate music of any type, you will love this CD. You will find it the perfect background music for any setting or activity. I look forward to my next Duarte CD purchase.

Wonderful Guitar Music!
I had worn my Ottmar Liebert CD thru, and was looking for something new. I came across Duarte's Leyenda while browsing on CD Baby and took a chance. I'm so glad I did! The music is beautiful; wonderful to listen to after work or during dinner or anytime really!

Technically superb, emotionally uplifting yet calming, rhythmically inspirationa
I bought 2 CDs of Leyenda and took one to my son in San Diego who plays guitar. He absolutely loved Duarte's music, and we listened to it several times when I was there. It's perfect for any occasion and has a nice combination of songs. I'm so glad I met Duarte when he was performing on Pier 39 in San Francisco, and that I now have both these wonderful CDs of his.

Wow! I nearly fell over when I heard this CD. Where have you been Mr. Duarte . . . and do you go out with other guys. Your musical ability makes me quiver with excitement. I can't wait for your next, big, thing.

We heard Tom playing in SF in August 2000 and picked up a copy of Leyenda. We have been playing it nightly in our restaurant in Devon, UK, ever since. Our customers love it as do we....can't wait for volume 2 Tom!!
