Tom MacLear’s ROUSING LIVE PERFORMANCE on Jimmy Kimmel a must see
When singer/songwriter Tom MacLear released his album Gods and Ghosts last year, the veteran musician wowed critics. Afterall, when you spend the past 30 years writing, recording and touring with some of the best talent in the music business as MacLear has, finely cultivated talent prevails and presents itself with aplomb.

Recently, MacLear performed one of the album’s tracks, “Goin’ Back to Texas” live on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, igniting the studio with his country/rock/folk-influenced sound. It’s worth checking out on YouTube

Beyond the catchy beat and equally catchy lyrics, the draw is the entertainer himself. You can tell MacLear is in his own perfect place and loving every minute of it. And his friends Cleto and the Cletones are right there with him, feeding off his energy and musical prowess.

Why aren’t there more Tom MacLears out there? Well, for one, emulators would need to possess mastery of the slide, bottleneck slide and lap steel guitar – not easy instruments to learn and certainly not easy to become a virtuoso at playing. Then there’s songwriting skills to cultivate and MacLear has that artform down in the way he finely crafts and curate lyrics.

If you aren’t familiar with MacLear, watch his performance on Kimmel and from there you’ll undoubtedly feel compelled to graduate to his latest release Gods and Ghosts and give it a listen. The title track itself will get your attention: It’s a showdown at MacLear’s corral where he takes a swing at the music business and its lack of regard for true talent at the hands of “self-appointed gods who take what once was free and sell us back our freedom like it was theirs to give or keep.” The first single off the album, “That Wonderful Love” is MacLear’s ode to finding hope in the world during these tumultuous times. Listening to this record will put you in a good place while also cajoling you into contemplation and questioning about life. Finally, music that’s like sonic salve for the soul.
