Album Notes
Pyrates Way Magazine recently wrote "Tom Mason and his Blue Buccaneers are the pirate Beatles, and Pirate Party is their Sgt. Peppers!", and if that be so, "If You Want to be a Pirate" may well be their "Yellow Submarine". Captain Tom set out to make the first of his CD's for kids a fun one that would be just as enjoyable for adults.
The CD opens with the catchy title tune (co-written by an Ozark Mountain Daredevil), proceeds with a ship work-out work song worthy of Tom Waits, followed by an upbeat tribute to a friendly sea monster named Kristofer who likes to sing. There are plenty of sing-alongs, along with a song about a foul-mouthed parrot, a song about keeping the ocean and beach clean, and the always-fun "Talk Like a Pirate" written with John "Ol' Chumbucket" Baur, one of the creators of Talk Like a Pirate Day.
From beginning to end "If You Want to be a Pirate" is a joy for music-lovers young and old who dream of the sea.
