Album Notes
El Choclo (meaning "The Corn Cob") is one of the most famous traditional Argentine Tango, and composed by Angel Villoldo (1861 - 1919). This funny title comes from the nickname of the Dans Hall owner. Arranged by Roland Dyens.

Argentine guitarist and composer Hector Ayala (1914 – 1990) composed many pieses and a Method for the guitar. This Serie Americana is his most famous composition, inspired by the music of South American countries.

This very well known song Alfonsina y el Mar (Alfonsina and the sea), composed by Ariel Ramirez (1921 - 2010), was written as the Homage and the Sorrow for argentine poet Alfonsina Storni (1892 - 1938). She wrote her last poem "Voy a dorir" (I Am Going to Sleep), and gone into the deep seaand drowned herself.
Arranged by Roland Dyens

Venezuelan Antonio Lauro (1917 - 1986) composed a lot of Venezuelan Valses (Walts) for the guitar. They have thier typical rhythm, which mix of 3/4 and 6/8. Tatiana and Andreina are the name of his nieces, Natalia is his daughter. Yacambu is the name of the river in Venezuela.

Felicidade (happiness) was composed as the opning music the brazilian movie film "Orfe Negro"(Black Orpheus) 1959 by the Master of "Bosa Nova"Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927 - 1994) and Vinicius de Moraes (1913 - 1980). I chose for this Album a very nice arrangement by the great guitarist and composer Roland Dyens (1955 - ).

The revoltioner of Argentine Tango, Astor Piazzolla (1921 - 1992) brought "Tango" from the Dance Hall to the Concert Hall. He lived at the childhood in New York ,and listened Jazz well. He also studied classical composition in Paris. His "Tango Nuevo" (new Tongo) was born with influence of all of them. This Las Estanciones Portena (Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) are one of the Masterpiece of him. Here played the transcription by a great Brazilian guitarist and composer Sergio Assad ( 1952 - ).
