ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Introducing a new project based on Tomoko Sawano’s ample experience serving for many years as a wind and brass répétiteur at the renowned University of the Arts Berlin, Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, and Liszt School of Music Weimar!

With & Tomonbe, all these troubles will disappear for only a few dollars!

Have you ever wanted to practice together with the piano before an exam, orchestral audition, or competition?
Have you ever had difficulties because you wanted to rehearse with piano but didn’t know any pianists?
Have you ever struggled with tempos, pitches, or the timing of joining in after preludes or interludes?
Have there been times when you were unable to rehearse with a pianist because of schedule conflicts?
Have you ever dreamed of practicing with the piano every single day?
Have there been times when you wanted to try playing a piece together with the piano without hiring a pianist?

With "& Tomonbe", all these troubles will disappear for only a few dollars!

The benefits of practicing with & Tomonbe

Play with the piano any time, any place, and however much you want.
More fun than practicing alone.
Helps you correct rhythm and pitch issues that you haven’t been able to hear when practicing by yourself.
Helps you practice playing your instrument while simultaneously listening to others.
Makes an effective ensemble practice tool. A recording will not play with you. You will be forced to make an effort to play with it.
Helps you practice with a sense of underlying harmony. This will allow you to naturally hear the timbre of your own part and help you realize greater possibilities of expression.

In this way, you can expect to see benefits that are much greater than practicing alone.
The tempo settings, including rubato, have been planned according to my original interpretations and based on my extensive experience. & Tomonbe has been recorded with a soloist and proper phrasing in mind. Timing-wise, in addition to the regular metronomic tempos, the performances have been recorded in a way that helps you “sing” more easily, or that naturally leads you to phrase and articulate in a certain manner.

Rather than just playing these recordings and practicing along with them, it’s also a good idea to listen to the piano parts by themselves multiple times. Pay close attention to how the tones and characters change, to the subtle pauses, rubato of various breadths, and flexible sense of tempo. Then try and apply these elements in your own performance.
Of course my interpretation is just one of many others. But why don’t you try and start here with & Tomonbe?
