ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album was created while working on two other projects, both vocal collections. Instrumental music, for me, tends to be a product of whim as much as necessity, as much inspiration as actually compositional effort. I hear a sound, I mishear a sound, and suddenly a musical landscape opens up, a possibility. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it is deleted as fast as it showed up.

These 21 songs made the cut.

“Driving Down the Threeway” was suggested by a friend; “Soma” came from reading Brave New World (Huxley); “Toil and Trouble” was inspired by bubbles from a soda bottle in dish water; “Joni Revisited” is a nod to Joni Mitchell, although not based on anything specific; “Seven Days Wonder” and Elevensies” are simply number games; “Reverse Thermal Dynamics” is a little harder to describe, except that sometimes it’s the best explanation of natural events. “Cydonian Landscape” is just Out There. As to which songs are the Light Side and which are the Dark side, I leave that up to you.
