Album Notes
Tom Syson is a trumpeter and composer based in the UK, and is a graduate of the BMus Jazz course at the prestigious Birmingham Conservatoire with 1st Class Honours. He is, 'one of the most interesting voices in the emerging generation of improvisers' and is 'happy to take risks'. He has played with musicians such as Arnie Somogyi, Alex Garnett and Jacqui Dankworth, and has played at venues/events such as Ronnie Scotts, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, The Barbican and The Royal Albert Hall. Tom currently plays lead trumpet in The Birmingham Jazz Orchestra and holds a chair in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, as well as having played with other ensembles including the Syd Lawrence Orchestra. He has also completed two UK tours, one with his duo with award winning Berlin based British pianist Mark Pringle in Feb 2017, and one with his sextet in 2016. Tom is set to release his debut album 'Green', with his sextet in June 2017, which will be accompanied by a 10-date UK tour.

After completing a 5-date UK tour in February 2016 with his sextet, Tom decided to record his debut album at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in August. The album was produced by Percy Pursglove and featured the JazzFm Vocalist of the Year 2016 Lauren Kinsella on a track. It is entirely made up from original material written by himself, was mixed by Alex Bonney and mastered by Peter Beckmann.

The sextet is as follows:

Tom Syson - Trumpet
Vittorio Mura - Tenor Saxophone
Ben Lee - Guitar
David Ferris - Piano
Pete Hutchison - Double Bass
Jonathan Silk - Drums

Percy Pursglove - "Tom Syson is one of the most interesting voices in the emerging generation of improvisers. His broad sphere of musical influence and exceptional intsrumental facility means that he is without doubt one to watch”

Jacqui Dankworth - "He is a very good musician and someone who really cares about the music."

Frank Griffith - "Tom Syson is a wonderfully talented trumpeter, and composer who is well along his way to making an impact on the UK jazz scene. His full bodied and broad tone is equally complimented by his fluid and linear melodic sense with a proclivity to excite when necessary. "

Steve Fishwick - "One of the most promising trumpeters of his generation"

Olly Chalk - "I just love the way he plays the trumpet ...... he improvises all the time and I think it’s really important that he’s happy to take risks.
