Album Notes
A Vermont native who now resides in Nashville, Toni Catlin is a deceptively edgy songwriter who frames her thought-provoking poetry in an irresistible musical tableau. This lady performs with a confidence that allows her to flawlessly merge a wide vocal range with a considerable dose of raw emotion and soul. Toni is signed to Matt Lindsey Music.

“Toni Catlin has made a fantastic new CD, I love it! Her singing is stunning, simply beautiful. The voice of a natural born singer. Her songs are first rate, and her style crosses many genres. I am a fan…give her a listen, there’s so much there to grab you. I can’t take her off my CD player.”

Stunning Album from Talented Nashville Singer-Songwriter
After a 5 wait since Vermont born and Nashville based Toni Catlin's debut HEARTACHE ON THE RUN, this album was released in late 2006. It has since become a personal favourite and I have worn laser grooves through it during 2007!
Fans of Patty Griffin and Gretchen Peters I feel will love this album as it is co-produced by Doug Lancio who has worked with both artists. Toni self penned 2 of the songs and co-wrote the remaining 12 calling on the help of some great collaborators including Warren Sellers, Duane Jarvis and Marcus Hummon…Hearing songs such as 'Not Goin'Down' comparisons can be made to Shawn Colvin whom Toni once opened for….'Strong Stuff' describes a boyfriends addiction to the demon drink and the singers own take on dealing with her inner demons with the obsession of a lovers touch. A song, which begs the artist and the listener to answer, questions in one’s own life….'Undertow' one of several songs she has co-written with L.A based Warren Sellers, is a carry-over track from a compilation CD called GIRLS WITH GUITARS….'Hallelujah' which is something of an anthem really grabs the attention. It was inspired by an article about the injustices in churches and in the greater world – A powerful piece indeed….'Disappear' a personal favourite from UNCOVERED completely captures Toni's stunning vocal. With her forlorn cry which has a delicacy and fragility it draws in the listener especially when delivering the glorious chorus: 'Just like smoke into the atmosphere / I'll slip away and disappear / Like leaves when they hit the ground / You won't have to hear the sound / Of my heart breaking or dry my tears I'll just disappear – Quite magical stuff!…..In fact Toni deals with all the aspects of love in such a tasteful and very beautiful way throughout this album. Revealing her own experiences including loss, trust, heartache and insecurities – songs straight from a woman's heart…Songs such as the swampy 'Break Me Open' is a plea to a lover to commit themselves with words 'Come On, break me open / Find out what the others won't ever know / Come On, break me open / A brave heart doesn't let go – A wish for a deep meaning relationship where love rules supreme….The glorious chorus in 'Deeper' appeals to a lover to explore the mystery of love to reveal the inner soul than merely scratching the surface...'When The Morning Comes' is a wonderful heartbreaking piece. Toni's engaging vocal is completely believable….The haunting opening to 'Sunday Morning' leads the listener to feel the isolation of love when one is the loser in the game. The musicianship is of the highest standard on the album none more so than demonstrated on this track…. There is a lovely pace to the album from the start to finish and you are never tempted to skip a track as each song holds its own water in terms of the quality of the songwriting….In May this year at an intimate stop-off gig in the UK before jetting off to play shows in Greece it was special to catch this artist right on top of her form. Toni showcased new material from a new cover songs project to mirror this one aptly titled COVERED, in this live unplugged guise she played the well-known folk song 'Wayfaring Stranger' a Burl Ives signature song and Shawn Colvin's fantastic track 'Shotgun Down The Avalanche'. This 10-track album is available from the artists own website. Encouraged by her father these are personal song selections bringing back halcyon days of being close to nature singing songs together around the campfire at the family resort Timberlock in New York State whilst enjoying the spectacular wilderness and lakeside settings….I am only too grateful that artists like Toni provide to the world such honest and thought provoking songs. Both albums come highly recommended….Andy Cole UK
