Album Notes
Totally funkified hipness you can relate to Tony Adamo – OAKTOWN: My pal Tony Adamo is THE man when it comes to capturing the funkified hipness that was ’70’s & ’80’s Oakland, California… he carefully crafts word & phrases that take me w-a-a-y back to the days when a spike in my arm was an every day occurrence, & we all made sure the Po-Po wouldn’t catch us… Tony put together the drum and bass loops with hand claps, with his music recording engineer Barry Schiffman of (Northern Lights Recording) Santa Rosa, California, playing all keyboards to make this single a perfect way for today’s youth to dig down deep into the rich history of “Oaktown”. As I told Tony after diggin’ this tune the first time – he KILLS IT! Of course, I’ve been reviewing his work for a long time now, most recently his “Rain Man” single release.

Tony’s composition for his new single is unique in several ways… for one thing, it’s a full 5:02 production… so, it’s not just another “3:00 minute wonder”. It also has the slinky hip-hop/rap smoothness of Quincy Jones “Back on the Block”, one of my favorite jazz & hip-hop albums from the ’80’s. These cats are definitely bringing back memories of those good (& sometimes bad) old days. If it’s total cool you’re wantin’ to groove to, you’ve GOT to get this song in your collection… check it out – NOW…
