Album Notes
When I first heard Tony perform a few years back,I immediately fell under his spell. The blend of his voice, guitar and delivery gave me goosebumps (in a good way). So when he asked me to produce his album( yes this is an album in it\'s most precious form), I was in. Here is that soulful voice, worn deep and sensual, spilling stories of heartache, love, loss, sin and redemption. His stories. I wanted to preserve the visceral quality of the basic tracks and along the way we worked with a bunch of talented musicians who respected the songs, adding texture and nuance without diluting the goosebumps. Tony brings you in, pulls you close and takes you down the road. But it\'s his road. With a few detours, some potholes and plenty of tequila.

The Quicken
FANTASTIC CD! I've been fortunate enought to hear him play in local clubs, but this CD is now hard-core proof of the expert singer, songwriter, musician that Tony is. This CD brings you places in your heart you haven't visited in quite some time!--

Rough Hands
Sometimes it just happens in life. You've been searching everywhere without luck, but all of a sudden there it is! The most magnificent little record, delivered by an artist you've never even heard about. Welcome to Norway, Tony Penn! I'll take my hat off, and there won't be any rough hands, I promise.

It\'s honestly shocking that Tony Penn isn\'t more well known; his talent is overwhelming. Penn\'s songs are simple and elegant, but packed full of truth and engaging musical ideas. Stylistically, it\'s a bit of spare, early 70s Dylan, a bit of Ryan Adams better, dustier moments. The songs on \"The Quicken\" are the kind that sound like you\'ve heard them before, but that\'s the beginning of their timelessness, just setting in. After each song is over, you\'ll be wrenched between wanting to hear the song again and wondering what wonderful mysteries lie in the next song. Songs like \"Don\'t Throw My Love Away\", with its simple finger-picked guitar pattern, and honest, pleading melody are striking on a few levels. First, anyone who\'s been in a tangled relationship will find the lyrics relatable, and find levels of connection to the singer through his metaphors. Second, the unadorned arrangement of the guitar and straightforward melody underly the simplicity yet heartbreaking seriousness of the message. But not every song is just guitar and voice, \"Keep Me in Your Heart\" employs drums, piano, violin, and accordion as well. These songs are universal, but the instruments help give the listener the sense of how it feels for love to go wrong in America. \"Enough\" continues the album\'s theme of regret and life\'s changes, this time underscored by a moody string section and an inquisitive piano. Tony Penn writes with the same stark intimacy of Leonard Cohen, but without the melodramatic flair, and thank God for that. Tony Penn has created a subdued treasure with \"The Quicken\".

I'm so excited to see Tony's cd finally sold online! He worked really hard on this cd. I'm proud to say he is one of the artists I have interviewed and will be interviewing on September 6th. GO TONY!!!! -Your personal radio promoter ;-)

I had the goose bumps listening to this CD and was very lucky to see him live and he just blew me away. His songs feel like they come right from the heart and the words really did touch my heart and soul and core. Where have you been all my life? Dont' Throw My Love Away is amazing. But then again I love the entire CD. I hope I hear more real soon. And I hope to catch you in person again real soon. Thank you for the music my man!!!!!
