Album Notes
The album Marmara is my attempt to combine music, art and philosophy in a way that is both complex and approachable. A painting was created by artist Bob Newhart while listening to each track from the record and is featured on the cover art. Below are the liner notes from the physical CD, brief words in response to the courses I have taken in philosophy:

Marmara - Recollecting the powerful journey I had in Turkey; Marmara is the inland sea that connects the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.

Optimistic - From Radiohead’s album “Kid A”, inspired by Brad Mehldau’s innovative interpretations of popular music.

The Sage Passage Suite:

Part I: “The Sage” - probably Socrates, this piece is a meditation on the process of persistent questioning and the greater understanding that can be the result of it.

Part II: “Cartesian Reign Clouds” - An emotional reflection on western thought since Descartes and the idea that there is a separation of the mind from the physical world... that can be “solved” through the process of science.

Part III: “Critique” - The experience of realizing how much potential you have through analyzing the moments in which you fail; also, Kant’s “Critique of Pure Reason”.

Part IV: “Where Do We Go From Now?” - The ultimate question and the possibility that we have come full circle; creative and reflective inquiry leads to enlightenment. Perhaps this question remains continually relevant while life is a process of constant change?

Double-Plaid - A blues about all the interesting comments I have received while wearing plaid shoes, shorts and shirts at the same time.

Perfect Morning Meditation Music
Played this CD while I did my morning Stretching-Tai Chi- Meditation warm-up the first morning after I receive it. It is a great mix of music for the combination of routines I do, and is now on my short list of CDs I use every morning. And, I listen to it when I just want to relax and think. And, I'm very picky about music I like, especially for starting my day. And...I love the cover artwork. The whole package is very cool. Thanks for the gift of your music and art.

Marmara is beautifully executed...with deep feeling. It took me along on a journey and a quest for understanding. But mere words would not do it justice. Only a musical response would be adequate.

Thought Provoking
This album is a great addition to my musical repertoire. I really enjoy the quality of these tunes; they remind me of Radiohead in that they are complex and inspire me to feel my emotions on a deeper level. Torrey Newhart is a very talented musician and I would highly recommend this artist to all of my friends.

Imaginative and Eclectic
Marmara is both moody and uplifting. Together the instruments give each song an imaginative and eclectic sound. I think it is the perfect CD to listen to while winding down from a long day at work. I also love the serenity of the cover art. Looking forward to more from Torrey Newhart!
