ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"By letting it go it all gets done. The world is won by those who let it go. But when you try and try. The world is beyond the winning".
-- Lao Tzu

For a long time I have wanted to do a project that focused solely on peaceful and meditational music. I envisioned (or enlistened) music that would flow freely, letting go my own perceptions of what music is, also with the approach of letting go of the desire to impress with technique, wit, to make money. The older I get the more I realize that holding on to thoughts that tie us down mentally and emotionally also ties us down spiritually. They keep us from the freedom that comes with peace of mind and true happiness. 'Let Go' is a free download of meditational/ inspirational music.

All of the songs here are improvised based on a theme (and that was largely improvised too). The paradox about recording an improvisation is visiting something that was done in the past that was at one time "in the moment". Hearing an improvised work, whether it's a live performance or recorded can give the immediate feeling of the present. There have been numerous tests done of the effects of all types of music. One theory is that jazz/ improvised music inspires creativity. Maybe it was no coincidence that the jazz age came in to fruition with the recording age.

One thing about life is that it's always in the present, because the past and future don't exist. Misery happens for many people from trying to hold on to things from the past or worrying about the future. The wise ones say to be mindful at all times or to pray unceasingly. This is what keep the mind on the things that are really important in the present. My favorite part of playing music is improvising, because it's creating in the now. If praying is talking to God and meditation is listening to God then music can be both. It is very much a sacred, ecstatic experience that has brought me much joy and happiness and I can only hope that is conveyed in the music.

A friend once asked me how I could always be in such a good mood all of the time and I responded with the famous "Let go and let God". She told me that was not the answer she wanted to hear. I replied "Well, who's the happy one"?

Birds only fly when they let go of the ground.
