Album Notes
This album originally debuted in 2009 and was released as Seattle four-piece Boomerang Summer’s debut EP, Breathe. Now re-released by bandleader, songwriter and saxophonist Trevor Ras, this record combines superb musicianship with a songwriter’s sensibility and the best attributes of rock, soul, Latin, blues and jazz.

It not flashy, nor does it shoot for that big radio single- it does, however, give insight into Trevor Ras' musical outlook- diverse arrangements, thoughtful songwriting and great playing mixed with a hummable simplicity.

From the smart pop-blues of “Simple” and the lighthearted political swing of “Save” to the blast of saxophones and fast paced Latin sojourns of the title track, “Breathe,” the music moves seamlessly through several genres and styles. And whether it’s the epic Jimmy Hendricks style solo that erupts from the “live for today” anthem “Say Goodbye” or the hushed melodic questions asked in “The Game,” the EP makes one thing clear- Boomerang Summer is playing music for the moment- relevant, real, inspiring and fun.

Performed by veterans of the NW musical landscape, including guitarist Ian McKamey and Ben Johnston the group had one thing in mind when they kicked off their first rehearsal in guitarist Ian McKamey’s leaky basement.

“Let it happen,” says frontman and saxophonist Trevor Ras. “We weren’t worried about the length of the tunes, sticking to a particular style or getting jammed up in trying to fit into a particular genre. The guys and I took each song to where we thought it wanted to go and everything else followed from there.”

While the band is no longer performing, Trevor Ras is grateful to the guys for their amazing performances and the work that went into making this album a reality. He continues to play each and every one of these tracks around the NW regularly.

A huge thank you to our families and friends. You know why we do this even when we don’t. Without your love, understanding and support, this simply would not have happened.

To James Teague, Adam Gershon and Jeff Earle- your careful, passionate eyes and ears have brought life to this project. You are rad.

This record is dedicated to the memory of Joe McKamey. May you rest in peace.
