Summer Sessions: Notes From A Free Cascadia

by Trick Sensei

Strong songwriting, thoughtful lyrics, slowly built, reverb-soaked soundscapes, blasts of noise, and three-minute pop gems. For now, Cascadia is only a state of mind. Trick Sensei is an indie-rock band from Oregon determined to help you get there.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Strong songwriting, thoughtful lyrics, slowly built, reverb-soaked soundscapes, blasts of noise, and three-minute pop gems. Trick Sensei is an indie-rock band from Portland, Oregon, that re-enters the world in 2007 with a new CD, Summer Sessions: Notes from a free Cascadia.

Guitarists/ vocalists Jeremy Gordon and Andres Caputo have been writing music together for nearly a decade. Aaron Hutzler (drums) and Gerald del Campo(bass) complete the Trick Sensei sound. Since joining the band over a year ago, del Campo has brought a third dimension of song writing that has helped the band fully realize it's sonic path.

The band spent much of 2006 creating "Summer Sessions: Notes from a free Cascadia" at 5-on-2 Recording, in Portland. In the fall of 2006 the record was mixed by Robert Bartleson (Wilco, Desert City Soundtrack) at Haywire Recording Studio and mastered at Nettleingham Audio. Full of the elements that distinguish Trick Sensei; the CD is smoky, warm and lush, yet also sparkly, clear and present.

Trick Sensei takes musical inspiration from artists including Sonic Youth, Archers of Loaf, Elliott Smith, The Cure, Death Cab for Cutie, and Modest Mouse. The band's sound has been compared artists as diverse as Pink Floyd, The Church, and Built to Spill. The band has played at some of Portland's best venues (Berbati's Pan, Sabala's , The Ash Street Saloon) and with some great bands (The High Violets, Blitzentrapper, The Prids).

On Summer Sessions: Notes from a free Cascadia, founding member Josh Boyd (theremin, loops) joins the band on three songs. Boyd left town several years ago but returns on occasion to join the band in a live setting.
