Album Notes
"El Rumor de tus Tangos" presents the main facets of Trio Garufa's repertoire. The tango rhythm formed around the turn of the 20th Century, originally called Tango Criollo and later used for the Urban Milonga genre, can be heard in El Torito. The golden age period of Orquestas Típicas (1930's-40's) is represented by Ella es Así, Racing Club and Bajo un Cielo de Estrellas. We play the emblematic tangos Malena and Gallo Ciego in the style of the small ensembles that flourished during the fifties and sixties. The classic masterpieces Responso and La Bordona show some of our own lush arrangements for string ensemble and Tango trio. We also include some original compositions with strings: Tango à Trois Temps, which moves between tango and vals time signatures, and El Viejito, dedicated to Leo Jacobsen. Milonga de San Francisco, written to represent our vibrant local Tango scene, and El Trunco, a tango with the melodic intricacies of the Chacarera Trunca genre, are two more original compositions. Our version of Milonga Uruguaya keeps the essence of the Milonga Campera while blending it with the Electro-Tango style. No Trio Garufa album would be complete without a piece from the Nuevo Tango master Astor Piazzolla, so we present to you our version of Oblivion. Finally, we visit the rhythms from the countryside of Argentina with three beautiful folklore pieces: Canción del Jangadero, De la Prima a la Bordona and La Olvidada.

Wonderful Album!
I listen to this CD all the time! it's truly awesome, diverse, intricate but accessible, moving, inspirational. Some songs feel like they tell a story. It has lots of layers and emotions, you can feel the musicians' dialogue. It's upbeat, at times serene, for the most part, high energy. It has a lot of life in it. Buy it, you'll love it!
