Album Notes
Trombones Unlimited Original Recordings Vol. II

Liner Notes
This CD contains two original albums “Big Boss Bones” and “Grazing In The Grass” recorded in 1966-69 by a studio recording group called “Trombones Unlimited”. That is, we were hired to go into a studio and read this music and record it live. There were some vocal and flute overdubs, but everything we did was live. The first album I did “Big Boss Bones” was done with Bob Edmondson who was friends with producer, arranger Tommy Oliver. Tommy had a falling out with the previous two trombone players and called Bob to bail him out at the last minute. Bob then recommended me. We did the whole album in one day. Six hours. All live! As Bob was a member of the Tijuana Brass he could not continue recording with Trombones Unlimited so I suggested Frank Rosolino. Frank and I did the next three albums of which “Grazing In The Grass” was the last. Bobby Knight played bass trombone on all the albums except “Big Boss Bones” which Kenny Shroyer played on. We never had a contract—we just played for union scale and went home. There were some very good jazz players and studio players on these dates. A few I can remember were Nick Ceroli drums, Carol Kaye bass, Julius Wechter, Victor Feldman, Larry Bunker, Emile Richards percussion and mallets, John Pisano, Tommy Tedesco, Dennis Budimir guitar, Mike Melvoin, Leon Russell piano, Jim Horn flute and baritone sax and others I can’t recall. Some of these tracks I can remember like it was yesterday while others are a blur...We did have fun and the recordings show it.
