Album Notes
In 1966 The Fabulous Tropics won The International Battle of the Bands held at the famous McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. The Band took first place over more than 1000 bands, which included such names as Chicago and Tommy James & The Shondells. Out of that came a recording contract with Columbia Records and the single "Take the Time," produced by Teo Macero, which made it to the top of the charts and got a "92" on Dick Clark's American Bandstand!
A 30-year reunion for the Tropics took place On May 7, 1999! The Fabulous Tropics played at the St. Petersburg, Florida, Coliseum. It was a benefit for All Children's Hospital. (As seen on "Good Day Tampa Bay" FOX 13)
This was the time to get back in the studio and re-record some of their favorite tunes, some of these recordings are available now on this CD. The reunion was a tremendous success and many good friends were reunited in a free-spirited, fun-filled nostalgic evening, reliving the innocence of those wonderful times. "It was Fabulous" says Margie Sexton, the band's former manager and owner of the famous "SURFER'S CLUB," a Madeira Beach, Florida teen-age night club in the 60's. This 7 song CD contains a song written for the occasion, "Still Get a Chill!!"
Band members include Charlie Souza, Eric Turner, Mel Dryer, Bobby Shea, and our brother and founding member, Buddy Pendergrass.

This CD is dedicated to the loving memory of our brother and founding member of The Tropics,
Buddy Pendergrass 1947 - 2003

In the summer of 65, we were young and so alive, Rockin' at the Surfer's Club, What a magical time it was. We were dancin' in the sand, playin' in a Rock & Roll band, Singin' I want More, and I wanna hold your hand.
I still get a Chill, Thinkin' about those days.
I Still get a Chill.

Still Get A Chill is a seven track reunion CD. The Tropics formed in the 1960's
THE TROPICS – STILL GET A CHILL: Still Get A Chill is a seven track reunion CD. The Tropics formed in the 1960's and enjoyed success until they disbanded with each member going his own separate way. This album is the re-release of some of their favorite tunes. It is a nostalgic trip that beautifully blends the experimental sounds of the 60's with the polish of current production. Each song including the opening Beatle's cover is filled with free flowing energy, quality musicianship and synergy. 'For A Long Time' features smooth vocal blends and some fantastic guitar work. The twelve string power chords and funky rhythm guitars are reminiscent of The Byrds' sound but taking it to an even higher level. 'Time' blends an upbeat tempo with a rather bluesy rift. A cool subtle beat and a blazing guitar solo make this song timeless. 'Black Jacket Woman' showcases the band's rich vocal harmonies. Dynamic instrumentation and a melodic hook complete the track. Still Get A Chill captures the creativity of the early Tropics and melds it with the mature musicianship of today's Tropic resulting in a stellar collection. Chilling!

I can remember you guys starting out with The Vanilla fudge and then the Rascals
The memories of the Tropics are like yesterday. I can remember you guys starting out with The Vanilla fudge and then the Rascals. Those days at the Decatur Alabama Armory
not much heat and no air in the summer. Of all the groups Bob Wilke brought in you were the best. Kids would sell coke bottles or mow lawns and then walk or ride a bicycle
just to see you. You sold more doublebreasted suites and flowerdy ties than you will ever know. I still get a chill!!! Great CD!

Nothing short of Awesome
This CD reminds us how great the Fabulous Tropics really were. If you close your eyes, you are returned to the old Surfers club on Mad Beach. We need more!!!

when I closed my eyes I could see you all playing at the armory and the Surfers
Dear Charlie & Eric:

I received my copies of The Tropics Anthology yesterday and I had to drop you a note to thank you.

It really took me back to a very good place in my life - when I closed my eyes I could see you all playing at the armory and the Surfers club - it is truly wonderful and there are really no words to express my gratitude to all of you for the wonderful memories.

Many, many thanks.

With all good wishes,

Bonnie-Jean Creais

Charlie Souza asked me to write a review in English language. And I will do so. ... Did you ever hear about THE TROPICS? - No? - What a shame. Because this band is really hot. Especially if you love the music of the 60s. Rock and roll at its best. Great vocals. Beautiful songs. All in all: 5 stars. - So do not hesitate and buy this CD. Or better: buy 2, 3, 4 or 5 CD`s. This is a perfect gift for christmas, birthdays, etc. ...
Enjoy, Dirk Stursberg, Radio 98.6, Berlin-Germany
