ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
About the film:

Sari is a talented student of literature who appears composed and confident on the outside. Her life is however characterized by a sense of remoteness: women envy her for her intelligence and beauty, men admire her from a distance for the same reasons. But looming inside her is a beast that isolates her from the rest of the world. Sari has epilepsy, a dreaded and mystical disease, and a fear of new attacks makes her live cautiously, keeping a safe distance to other people.

When Sari meets Mikko Groman, an older man who is a lecturer at her department, she recognizes in him a similar element of remoteness. Mikko, who drifts around in his private world of complex thoughts, only feels at home in the company of 19th century poetry. In the performance-oriented modern world of computers and camera phones, Mikko is an oddity.

In Mikko Sari finds an equal, but outsiders only see them as two totally incompatible people. Year of the Wolf is a film by award-winning director Olli Saarela of forbidden love and of conquering personal fears. It is produced by Ilkka Matila / Matila Röhr Productions.

About the composer:

Film music composer Tuomas Kantelinen studied classical composing in his native Finland and continues to make music for both cinema and concert audiences.

He is well known in Europe for his concertos and operas as well as for his orchestral film music for over 30 feature films.

His first big U.S. feature, Renny Harlin’s dark thriller Mindhunters, premiered in May 2005.

This year the Finnish epic Mother of Mine, with music by Kantelinen, was Finland's candidate for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film and won many jury and public awards during its theatrical and festival run.

Tuomas too has won numerous awards and nominations for his scores, including several Finnish "Jussi" statuettes, best score awards on festivals and the Finnish Art Critics’ Award for the artistic breakthrough of the year.

On the TV front, Tuomas has written news and program jingles, scores for TV movies and music for advertisements.

At the moment Tuomas is working on the animated feature film Quest for a Heart and several live action feature films.
