ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Until their expulsion in 1492, Jews had lived in Spain for over a thousand years. Many resettled in Turkey and throughout the Ottoman Empire, taking with them, their unique Jewish-Spanish language, Ladino. This CD, from Bosnia, features the renown Sephadic group, "Shira U'tfila" with vocalist Drita Tutunovic who learned these songs from her mother, grandmother, and aunts & uncles, keeping alive a tradition of over 500 years.

The musical accompaniment features 'authentic' instrumentation including; oud, darabuka, bendir, riq, zarb, etc. The accompanying booklet includes lyrics to all the songs in English and Ladino.

A beautiful and unique recording.
