Album Notes
"I cannot remember the last time I played a ukulele album over and over quite so much. “Optimism” is a combination of wit, charisma, expertise and grace consummated into a superlative album. It’s cliched but I genuinely mean this, if you only buy one ukulele album this year… It truly is absolutely top class." UkePlanet

For this new album, Tyrone and Lesley (aka David Megarrity and Samuel Vincent) have crafted a set of new treasures, taking the listener on a joyfully strange journey through instrumentals, spoken word and loops, heartful irony on bright and woody acoustics, to classic songs of drinking and love where the glass is always half full. And an ode to the Dung Beetle.

The new album is built around Tyrone and Lesley’s trademark ukulele and double bass, adding grand piano, loops, special guests and the talents of two trios of backing vocalists, The Pockets and Tenori.

“It’s called OPTIMISM because of themes that emerged in the songwriting,” explains Tyrone, “that as bad as things might appear to be, the sometimes foolish hope that things can be better can itself bring about comfort and change. As our song I’m Gonna Dream says, ‘the night can’t be as dark as it seems’.”

In these dark times, it may be unfashionable to be optimistic, but Tyrone and Lesley never set out to be fashionable. That’s why they’ve never gone out of style.
